Man Utd could sell nine first-team stars on top of discarding those who’ll leave as free agents this summer, according to reports.

To sign the calibre of player Erik ten Hag craves, Man Utd must bolster their budget through several player sales. The Dutchman’s squad contains many a player signed by former managers, and at least two will depart as free agents this summer.

Per the Mirror, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe will both move on when their respective deals expire on June 30.

However, per the same outlet, Man Utd are willing to let eight further first-team stars go. According to the Manchester Evening News and Sky Germany a ninth player can now be added to that list.

Firstly, the MEN reported United have abandoned their initial loan plans involving Anthony Elanga in favour of pursuing an outright sale.

Sky Germany took the story on, revealing German giant RB Leipzig have held talks over signing the 21-year-old Sweden winger. Both outlets confirmed Elanga will be allowed to leave Old Trafford this summer.

But per the Mirror, Elanga is far from alone in that regard.

Indeed, a fresh update has claimed Dean Henderson, Alex Telles, Brandon Williams, Eric Bailly, Harry Maguire, Fred, Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial could all depart too.

Henderson is currently in advanced negotiations to join Nottingham Forest after impressing during a season-long loan spell this season.

Football Insider previously reported Henderson has come to the realisation he has no future at Old Trafford in the event David de Gea signs a new contract. Despite delays, De Gea is expected to pen fresh terms at United.

Henderson previously tore Man Utd apart in an explosive interview with talkSPORT over what he described as ‘criminal’ treatment by the club. His anger stemmed from alleged broken promises over playing time under former boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Elsewhere, club captain Harry Maguire will be allowed to leave after tumbling down the pecking order.

Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and even left-back Luke Shaw are all in front of Maguire at centre-back.

The Daily Mail and Telegraph both reported on Tuesday that Maguire will be allowed to leave this summer. Tottenham have emerged as a credible contender to sign Maguire who is admired by new Spurs boss, Ange Postecoglou.

A prior MailPlus report claimed Man Utd are ‘resigned’ to only recouping half of the £80m fee they paid Leicester back in 2019.

Nonetheless, £40m would still represent an excellent return for a divisive player who is 30 years of age. Logic would dictate Spurs will attempt to negotiate an even lower price.

Regarding the others, Fred is understood to have interest from Fulham, while Scott McTominay is wanted by Newcastle and potentially West Ham as their Declan Rice replacement.
