Bayern Munich talks with Man Utd target could open door for Robert Lewandowski to join Chelsea

Sasa Kalajdzic celebrates for Stuttgart

Bayern Munich are reportedly in talks with Stuttgart forward Sasa Kalajdzic, over a move which could have implications on the future of Robert Lewandowski.

Kalajdzic has been one of Stuttgart’s most crucial assets in recent seasons. The forward found the net 17 times last term, as well as providing six assists.

His goals tally made him the top scorer at Stuttgart, with five goals more than the next player. While he has not quite hit those heights this season – a shoulder injury hindering his playing time – Kalajdzic has still had an impact in front of goal.

The Austrian has scored six times and provided two assists this campaign. That once again makes him the side’s highest scorer for this season.

However, Stuttgart are in somewhat of a tough spot at the moment. While in the 2020/21 season they finished ninth in the Bundesliga, in the recently-concluded season, they only narrowly managed to avoid the relegation play-off, on goal difference.

Given Kalajdzic’s quality, he has been linked with a move away from the struggling side. The Premier League is a potential destination for him, with Manchester United and Tottenham both reportedly interested.

Remaining in Germany is also a possibility, too. Borussia Dortmund have been named as an potential destination, and so now have Bayern Munich.

That is according to Sky Sports, who claim there has been contact between the Bundesliga giants and Stuttgart.

In fact, negotiations seem to be progressing, as the recent meeting between the sides is apparently the second one they have had.

A move to Bayern for Kalajdzic would follow a familiar pattern. He would be the latest in a long line of Bundesliga players to be snapped up by the serial champions.

Should Bayern complete their reported pursuit of Kalajdzic, it could assist Lewandowski. The Bayern striker is reportedly angling for a move away from the German titans.

In fact, there have been reports that he has agreed a contract with Barcelona. However, Bayern are unlikely to sanction that move without a replacement in place.

Especially as Lewandowski has an entire year remaining on his deal. Kalajdzic could be an apt replacement for the Polish forward, though.

His 16 league goals in the 2020/21 season made him the sixth-highest goalscorer in the Bundesliga. While that tally was 25 goals less than Lewandowski – who occupied the top spot – he is clearly capable of finding the net.

At just 24 years of age, Kalajdzic will no doubt become more of a threat in years to come, and a move to Bayern could bring out the best of him. As such, the Bundesliga champions may be willing to let their talisman go, in order to bring the Stuttgart star in.
