German legend Bastian Schweinsteiger revealed what Manchester United must do to get the best from Paul Pogba, and expressed several major doubts over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s suitability for the manager’s job.

Despite boasting a squad the envy of many in Europe, Manchester United have laboured for much of the current campaign. Paul Pogba began brightly, bagging an incredible seven assists from his first four league matches.

However, his role has since been diminished and the French ace was again left on the bench for the visit of Liverpool on Sunday.

And speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, German legend Bastian Schweinsteiger explained where he believes United are going wrong with Pogba.

The former Bayern Munich great suggested United and Solskjaer aren’t making Pogba feel “important” enough.

Schweinsteiger claimed France boss Didier Deschamps has shown how boosting Pogba’s ego can bring the best out of him, and a player of Pogba’s calibre is worth the hullabaloo that inevitably follows.

“Paul Pogba has the craziness of changing his hair every day and his earrings but I don’t care,” said Schweinsteiger (via the BBC).

“If I have a player that is able to bring me the biggest success in the world with the Champions League, World Cup, European Championships I need to give this player confidence.

Everton will only be able to make a loan approach to Manchester United for Jesse Lingard in January due to financial fair play problems, with more news on Donny van de Beek and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

“I need to make him important. that is what these sort of players need. Didier Deschamps manages to do this with the French national team.”

Schweinsteiger then went on to express his doubts about Solskjaer’s rein at  Old Trafford.

Man Utd lack chemistry under Solskjaer – Schweinsteiger

“I don’t know if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has the answer,” added the German. “It is his first big job as a coach.

“Personally I don’t see a chemistry on the field at the moment and you need that to be successful in the long term. The consistency is lacking too.

“I always compare Manchester United to the big teams like Bayern Munich. Before the game I can tell you that Bayern will win 4-0, 5-0 or 8-0. It is clear.

“They have a chemistry and structure on the field. It is coming – it doesn’t matter if it is raining, sunny or snowing. It is difficult to say that about Manchester United at the moment.”
