Sergio Gomez Anderlecht March 2022

Manchester United are continuing to watch Anderlecht star Sergio Gomez amid suggestions the could make a move for the player this summer.

United have been linked with the 21-year-old previously. The Sun claimed in December that United were one of a trio of Premier League club who watched the defender as he scored twice as his side beat RSC Charleroi 3-1 in the Belgian top flight.

Everton and Southampton were the other two clubs namechecked, but since then a number of other clubs have taken an interest.

According to TEAMtalk sources both Chelsea and Leeds have been looking into a deal.

Gomez is very much a player of interest for director of football at Leeds Victor Orta. The Leeds chief is looking to bolster their options down the left.

While Chelsea scouts have been impressed with the player, who can play anywhere down the left.

Gomez is only in his debut season since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund. But already he has contributed six goals and 14 assists in 41 games in all competitions from left-back.

Inter interested in Gomez

Now though, Gazzetta Dello Sport, via Sport Witness say United have continued to send “observers” to watch his performances. United scouts have “often moved in the direction of Brussels”.

But they will have to escalate the deal quickly because Inter Milan have also emerged as serious rivals to land the Spain Under-21 man.

Gazzetta say Inter Milan are planning for life without veteran Croatian Ivan Perisic and want an alternative to Robin Gosens.

Apparently Gomez fits the bill, but United’s interest will have the Serie A side concerned.

United could be on the lookout for more defensive cover with Gomez able to play at right-back and in midfield.

Gomez, who is under contract until 2025, is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy.
