The agent of Manchester United new boy Sofyan Amrabat has sent the midfielder an emotional message on social media after revealing the player was happy to reject a series of other offers to move to Old Trafford.

The Morocco star was a man in demand this summer with his contract at Fiorentina running down and the Serie A side making clear their willingness to sell. However, La Viola were determined that their star man would not be allowed to walk away for less than their valuation.

As a result, the 27-year-old found himself the subject of intense interest from fierce Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United, who were both keen to acquire his services. And then, with days left in the window and with their star midfielder in talks over a move to Bayern Munich, Fulham also entered the race to sign the star.

Ultimately, however, the player only had eyes for Manchester United. And with Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag desperate to reunite with the player who enjoyed his breakthrough year under his charge at Utrecht, there was a mixture of joy and relief at Old Trafford when a deal for Amrabat – following days of talks – was finally done with minutes left on deadline day.

The World Cup semi-finalist has joined United on an intial season-long loan deal with United paying Fioretina £8.6m (€10m) with an obligation to make the move permanent next summer. The fee for Amrabat will ultimately set the Red Devils back an additional £17.1m (€20m), with a further £4.3m (€5m) in bonuses and add-ons and ultimately taking the total package to some £29.96m (€35m).

There is no denying Amrabat had to wait patiently to get his move to Old Trafford over the line. And there must have been plenty of nervous moments for the player during the latter stages of the window as United and Fiorentina negotiated over the terms of the deal.

Indeed, La Viola could probably have moved the player on to either Fulham or Liverpool with greater ease. However, with the player setting his heart on the Red Devils only, his agent, while not naming the other clubs in question, claims Amrabat will fulfil a ‘dream’ by signing for United.

“You had a dream that saw you playing under the lights in The Theatre of Dreams,” agent Mahmoud El Boustati wrote on Instagram.

“You put your trust in me to make that dream a reality, and for 15 years we have been on this journey together that has seen you grow from a young boy with raw talent and a passion for football, to the man you are today, a world class player.

“After your performances at the World Cup, the biggest stage of all, the whole world was speaking your name.

“They all saw what I always knew, your talent was undeniable.

“My belief in you has never changed and even though these last three months were difficult with so many obstacles, you turned down every club that came calling because you had faith that your dream would come true. One club.

“We made it brother, a promise kept, a dream realised. The Theatre of Dreams awaits.”

Amrabat, who will wear the No 4 shirt for United recently vacated by Phil Jones after 12 years at Old Trafford, could debut for the Red Devils after the international break when they entertain Brighton on September 16. The player currently has a slight back problem though it is not deemed serious enough at this stage to make him a doubt for the game.
