Man Utd, Tottenham-linked World Cup star could go to Italy after social media hint
Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Marcus Thuram could be set for a surprise move to Italy after fans spotted a subtle hint regarding his future on Instagram.
The France international had been linked with moves to both Manchester United and Tottenham in the January window, but this recent revelation may suggest he will opt for the Serie A over the Premier League.
Thuram has been in fine form for his club and performed admirably for France as they reached the World Cup final. Reportedly, the 25-year-old is available at a cut-price valuation of just £10m in the upcoming transfer window.
TEAMtalk suggested only two days ago that the Frenchman could be set for a switch to Old Trafford, however, a comment on his latest Instagram post by Inter Milan player and Torino loanee Valentino Lazaro may dash the Red Devil’s hopes.
Inter now seem to be the favourites, after previously coming close to a deal over the summer. Now, the curious message from Lazaro has only intensified those links.
He wrote: “Proud of you bro! Ci vediamo presto.”
He wrote the first part in English, but the second in Italian, which some saw as a hint he is heading towards Italy.
‘Ci vediamo presto’ translates as: We’ll see each other soon. Suggesting Thuram could indeed be heading to San Siro this winter.
Thuram, Inter links come as a blow to Premier League pair
If this recent rumour is to be believed, it will come as a blow to United and Spurs who were both eyeing the Frenchman as a cheap way to bolster their attacks.
While he is an essential player for Monchengladbach, Thuram has so far refused to sign a new contract at the club, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the season.
As a result, the 25-year-old is available for a cut-price fee of just £10m in January, garnering interest from across Europe.
In 15 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, Thuram has scored an impressive 10 goals and has made three assists for Monchengladbach: the best form of his career by far.
Also, in the World Cup final on Sunday, he replaced Olivier Giroud after 41 minutes and went on to win a penalty and provide an assist, as Les Blues forced extra time and penalties in an exceptional game, with this performance only adding to Thuram’s growing reputation.
As recently as two days ago, German outlet Bild tagged United as the big favourites for his signature, with Spurs following closely behind.
Marcus Rashford has been the Red Devils’ most reliable attacking option so far this season, contributing four goals and two assists from 14 appearances in the league so far.
But, if United are to maintain their push for the top four, they need more consistent goal scorers at their disposal.
Thuram, like Rashford, likes to operate from the left-wing position, but has been far more prolific than the Englishman in front of goal, so he would be a smart addition for Erik ten Hag.
As for Spurs, with a recent injury to Richarlison ruling the Brazilian out for approximately six weeks, they could also do with some more attacking options.
However, the odds have now shifted in Inter’s favour as it looks like they have reignited their summer interest.
But, the chase is not over yet and we can expect more developments on Thuram’s future as we near the January window.
