Man Utd striker target Victor Osimhen makes major Napoli admission amid transfer exit links

Napoli ace Victor Osimhen is likely to secure a move this summer

Victor Osimhen has outlined his only focus at present as he continues to be linked with a move from Napoli to Manchester United.

Osimhen’s nine goals from 11 Serie A games so far this season have helped an unbeaten Napoli to the top of their table. In the process, the Nigeria international has also been catching the attention of some suitors in the Premier League.

For example, Manchester United still need a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, whom they released recently by mutual consent.

Osimhen is on their radar, although he would be one of their more expensive targets. Still, it is easy to see why he would appeal to them.

Now, the 23-year-old has given an update on his future at club level. Speaking to Il Mattino, Osimhen has insisted he is already at one of the best clubs on the continent.

Therefore, he is not thinking beyond the current season just yet.

“It’s one of the best clubs in Europe and I want to win here,” Osimhen said. “The future is this moment, try to win something relevant in Italy.

‘It’s hard to think about something better than Napoli, one of the best clubs in Italy, right now. I am only focused on this season because we haven’t done anything yet. We must win something and then we’ll see what happens.”

As well as leading the way in Serie A, Napoli have reached the round of 16 of the Champions League, where they have a fairly inviting draw against Eintracht Frankfurt.

In addition, they are due to face Cremonese in the same stage of the Coppa Italia – the last trophy in their cabinet, from 2020 – in January.

Osimhen remains under contract at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona until 2025.

Man Utd mulling over Victor Osimhen alternatives

Since he is now almost certainly unavailable in January, Manchester United may have to look elsewhere if they still feel the need for another forward – even if it is just as a stop-gap until the summer – in January.

TEAMtalk understands that Man Utd won’t be spending big on a striker in the winter anyway. Their preference is to find a suitable loan deal, in a replication of when they signed Odion Ighalo in January 2020.

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic is one option to have been linked with a temporary move to Old Trafford, for instance.

Then, in the summer, Man Utd can assess their options again. Perhaps by then, Osimhen might have achieved what he wants to with Napoli. Thus, a move for him could come back into focus.

For now, though, other options must be taken into account instead.
