Suitors remain keen on signing Manchester United man despite huge gaffe

Andreas Pereira Flamengo November 2021

Flamengo remain eager to sign Manchester United attacker Andreas Pereira on a permanent deal despite his high-profile mistake this week.

That is the verdict coming from Brazil and Extra.Globo. A stray touch from Pereira after losing his footing allowed Deyverson to score past Diego Alves in the Copa Libertadores final defeat to Palmeiras on Sunday. A gutted Pereira took to Instagram to apologise for the mistake and he has seen a number of consoling messages, including from former United team-mates.

“Nation, I’m here with a heavy heart! Today I made a mistake!” He wrote.

“There was no lack of will, race… and it will never be lacking!

“Difficult moments show the character of our group that in these 3 months welcomed me into the @flamengo family with so much affection! (sic).

“I apologize for today’s mistake! promise, I will win you back!”

Pereira has received plenty of support.

Neymar wrote: “Raise your head, making mistakes is part of our sport. Just don’t give up, I trust you, you’re an ace.”

While Memphis Depay said: “Head up lil bro! The future is bright!”

Manchester United's 'confidence' in Erling Haaland pursuit

Manchester United have renewed confidence that they can win the transfer battle for Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland, following the deal to bring Ralf Rangnick to the club, with more news on Dean Henderson and Donny van de Beek.

But despite the gaffe, the Brazilian outlet maintain that Flamengo are keen to make the loan deal permanent.

Pereira signed for Flamengo on a season-long loan in August. His time at Old Trafford looks to be coming to an end, as he last played in a competitive game for the club in August 2020. Since then, he spent a difficult season on loan at Lazio and is now in South America.

Flamengo looking for Pereira reduction

The one-time Brazil international is under contract until 2023. But Flamengo want to sign the 25-year-old permanently, although they are not keen on paying the £17m asking price.

It was reported by Fabrizio Romano that Flamengo negotiated a loan deal with no loan fee for Pereira. Instead, Pereira’s wages are being split between the two clubs.

Additionally, Man Utd have negotiated a 20 percent sell-on clause on any future sale.

It was recently revealed that Flamengo have an option to buy him for €20m, which they can trigger at any point until the end of June.

“There will be no negotiations to reduce it (fee),” according to the report.

The desire of Pereira appears to be similar. He is believed to have told friends he is desperate to return to a Copa Libertadores final and right the wrongs for Flamengo.
