Ten Hag choosing between Dutch trio to nullify Man Utd concern – but ‘big chance’ emerges for alternative

Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag has three fellow Dutchmen on his shortlist to strengthen an area Man Utd are working on ahead of the summer transfer window, TEAMtalk has been told.

According to our insider Graeme Bailey, adding another right-back is on the agenda for Man Utd in case Aaron Wan-Bissaka decides to pursue a new opportunity elsewhere. The former Crystal Palace defender has been below Diogo Dalot in the pecking order since Ten Hag took charge.

An intriguing summer transfer window awaits for the Carabao Cup winners. In the event of them replacing Wan-Bissaka, Man Utd could continue with the Dutch theme that has sometimes been prevalent since the appointment of Ten Hag.

Last summer, they added to the other side of their defence by bringing in Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord. This time around, Ten Hag could have his pick of three Dutch right-backs.

Bailey told us: “Manchester United want a number 9 and a central midfielder, but their right-back is an area they are working on.

“United expect Diogo Dalot to sign his new deal and despite showing up well at times in recent months, I am told that Aaron Win-Bissaka is very much available and there is interest in him.

“With that United are doing a lot of work on right-backs and they have narrowed down their list, and it is Dutch orientated.

“Ajax’s Jurrien Timber is a player that Erik ten Hag knows well and is a huge fan of, and it will be hard to see him passing him by – but United are also keen on his Dutch colleagues Jeremie Frimpong and Denzel Dumfries.”

Frimpong, 22, currently plies his trade in the German Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen. Dumfries, meanwhile, is at Inter Milan in the Italian Serie A.

As for Timber, the bulk of his appearances this season have come at centre-back. Earlier in his career, though, he has shown an ability to play at right-back.

Man Utd also offered France star’s services

There is one non-Dutch name on Man Utd’s shortlist too who can also cover centrally or as a full-back.

Indeed, Bailey added: “However, one big name that has been offered to United is Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard.

“As it stands he has not signed a deal at Bayern and with just over 12 months remaining on his deal, there is a big chance he leaves this summer.

Man City and Real Madrid are also aware of the situation and if he does leave he is not going to be short of offers.”

As a World Cup winner with France from 2018, Pavard is a high pedigree player who will be worth considering if he is indeed available.

Evidently, Man Utd have many options to consider. Therefore, they will keep doing their research before deciding who to move for.
