Ten Hag in dreamland as next Man Utd transfer to follow Onana named with €30m midfielder to ‘sign before the weekend’

Manchester United are growing in optimism that a quickfire swoop for a new midfielder, and what will be their third signing of the summer, will be sealed before the weekend, according to reports in Italy.

The Red Devils are starting to finally flex their financial muscles after a relatively-slow start to the window. After watching the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool spend well over £100m – or £200m in the Gunners’ case – United just have £55m Mason Mount to show for their efforts.

However, with Andre Onana flying into the UK to undergo a medical, the Inter star has made clear his reasons for signing for the Red Devils. And revenge over Manchester City is already in the talented goalkeeper’s sights.

United are expected to follow up the transfer of Onana with a concrete move for a new striker. To that end, Atalanta’s barnstorming frontman Rasmus Hojlund has emerged as their top target.

Indeed, after initial discussions with Atalanta over a deal, United will reportedly launch an official bid this week for the Dane. The Serie A side, though, have waved away attempts for United to include players on loan as part of the deal. Indeed, they want a straight cash sale only with Hojlund rated at a minimum €65m (£56.5m).

However, before a deal for Hojlund is sealed, it’s claimed United will first push through the signing of Sofyan Amrabat.

The Moroccan midfielder enjoyed an outstanding World Cup, helping his side reach the semi-finals.

But with a year left on his deal, Fiorentina have cleared the way for his exit.

Indeed, reports earlier this week claimed United have already seen a lowball opening offer fall short.

Man Utd to seal Amrabat deal ‘before the weekend’

Now according to TGR journalist Sara Meini, United will attempt to close the signing of the 26-year-old before the weekend.

And there appears optimism his registration will be finalised in time for him to join their squad by Monday.

While Meini does not disclose what fee United will pay, reports elsewhere claim Fiorentina will sell for €30m (£26m).

United boss Erik ten Hag knows the player from their time together at Utrecht. And the star is reportedly keen to link-up with the Dutchman again at Old Trafford.

The signing of Amrabat will also clear Ten Hag to offload some unwanted players of his own. Brazilian midfielder Fred is reportedly free to leave after five years at Old Trafford. An embarrassingly low offer, though, from Galatasaray has been knocked for now.

But with the likes of Fulham and clubs in Saudi Arabia also chasing a deal, Fred seemingly has plenty of options.

Ten Hag may also be willing to offload Scott McTominay if a suitable offer comes in. Newcastle and West Ham remain on the trail of the Scotland international. However, the club will try move on Donny van de Beek first.

As a result, Ten Hag hopes to go into the new season with a new central midfielder axis of Casemiro and Amrabat. And with Christian Eriksen providing an alternative, the Red Devils boss will feel well covered in that area.
