Ten Hag offers hint to further Man Utd signings, with decision makers ‘doing our research’ on squad upgrades

Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag has suggested that Manchester United might be looking into more signings who are “better” than what they currently have at their disposal.

Ten Hag has been doing a good job for Man Utd so far, leading them to third in the Premier League table at the halfway stage. The mood is positive at Old Trafford after they beat Manchester City in the derby recently.

The rebuilding job Ten Hag is overseeing is a long-term process, though. There are still plenty of ways in which Man Utd can develop, which includes bringing in new players.

During the January transfer window so far, they have added to their squad depth by completing loan deals for goalkeeper Jack Butland and striker Wout Weghorst.

In the long term, Man Utd will undoubtedly be expected to look at some bigger names to bring in. There will be much intrigue as to where they go next in terms of transfers.

Asked at a press briefing if Man Utd might even be able to bring in more players in January, Ten Hag suggested it could well be possible.

“I think as Manchester United you always have to look for solutions,” he replied.

“You always have to look for better and that is what we will do.

“We will be doing our research and if there are opportunities, we have to go for it.”

Ten Hag continuing Man Utd rebuild

Man Utd must ensure they bring in the right kind of players to maintain their progress under Ten Hag.

Most of the signings that have arrived since Ten Hag took charge have had a useful impact. Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez have been particularly impressive since their summer arrivals.

Whoever is next to arrive at Old Trafford will also want to make themselves useful to Ten Hag. Therefore, the club’s decision makers need to ensure they are investing in the right kind of players.

They will also have to carefully judge when is the right time to bring new players into the squad. Their transformation will be a gradual process and they will not want to make wholesale changes while things seem to be staying on track.

But it will certainly be encouraging to their fans that Ten Hag wants to keep bringing in better players.

For now, they will be hoping the ones already at his disposal can achieve their ambitions for the current season. If anyone else can come in during January, it might be a bonus.

Ten Hag was speaking in view of Man Utd’s next game, which will be against Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday. It could be another good measure of how far they have come.
