Ten Hag ready to snare prized Juventus asset to Man Utd with financial perils forcing major decision

Dusan Vlahovic, Federico Chiesa, Adrien Rabiot, Juventus, February 2023
Manchester United are reportedly one of the sides waiting in the wings to sign Dusan Vlahovic in the event Juventus have to downsize.
Vlahovic has been one of the most highly sought after forwards in Europe for more than a year. When he moved to Juventus in January 2022, he had interest from other big names, namely Arsenal and Tottenham.
However, at that point, Juventus was the better option than either of the north London sides. Before the 2020/21 campaign they had won Serie A in nine straight seasons.
Things are not going quite as swimmingly now. An investigation into the suspected artificial inflation of transfer fees has seen the Old Lady docked 15 points.
As such, they now find themselves seventh in Serie A, and are currently 30 points behind leaders Napoli.
Amid the off-field problems, interest has once again ramped up in Vlahovic. Indeed, the forward is the subject of renewed interest from Arsenal, as well as from Manchester United and Chelsea.
The Red Devils reportedly had a bid accepted in January, before Vlahovic’s agent put a stop to the deal.
However, it seems that has not put the Old Trafford outfit off the transfer.
United among sides waiting on Juventus, Vlahovic decision
Indeed, Calciomercato reports United are one of a few sides that still have their eye on a deal for the striker. The report suggests alongside the Red Devils are Real Madrid, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Bayern Munich are also named as a side that are keen on a move for the forward, though Harry Kane is their first port of call.
Each side seems to be waiting on a big decision from Juventus. Indeed, the clubs are all ‘ready to attack’ if Juventus are ‘forced to downsize next season following delicate off-field events’.
There could certainly be a chance that Juventus have to sell up to rectify their financial situation. As such, a star striker they paid around £70million for just over a year ago would surely be a player they’d look to offload.
Recouping that sort of sum would go a long way to rectifying any financial issues that might be going on behind the scenes.
Calciomercato suggests they would actually be looking for a higher fee than what they paid for the Serbian. Indeed, they state Juventus value Vlahovic at no less than €100million (approx £88.5million).
United would likely have no problems in paying that, given they reportedly bid that in January. However, if a sale is forced, Juventus might have to settle for less anyway.
Vlahovic a great addition at United
That Vlahovic would be a great player to add to the United side is clear.
Indeed, despite missing a chunk of the season through injury, the striker has bagged eight goals and two assists in 15 Serie A games, including two goals and an assist just two games after his return from injury.
Having that sort of goal threat through the middle, while Marcus Rashford – who has scored 25 goals in all competitions this term – is also in top form out wide should mean for a lot of goals.
United will have a keen eye on Juventus’ movements to see if the move is possible in the summer.
