Ten Hag reluctance holding up forward signing with ‘frustrated’ Man Utd star wanted to offset damaging Liverpool, Chelsea deals

PSV Eindhoven have made an enquiry into the potential signing of a ‘frustrated’ Man Utd winger, though Erik ten Hag has already rejected one Premier League side and has reservations over the new proposal too, per reports.

The final days of the January transfer window could be busy ones at Old Trafford from an exits perspective, at least.

The forward line in particular will come under the microscope, with Anthony Elanga and Facundo Pellistri both the subject of loan links.

Indeed, relegation-threatened Everton were in the mix to bring Elanga on board for a six-month loan. However, per the Daily Star, Ten Hag laid waste to the move.

His reasoning for rejecting Everton stemmed from the dim view he took of on and off-field matters at Everton right now.

In the newspaper’s words, Ten Hag harboured ‘concerns about what the current climate at Goodison Park might do to Elanga’s development and progress.’

Borussia Dortmund were also reportedly sizing Elanga up, though Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg subsequently ruled them out of the race.

According to Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink, it may now be third time lucky for the Sweden international.

Elanga to offset Gakpo, Madueke coups?

He tweeted Elanga, 20, is ‘one of the options’ PSV are targeting as they seek to strengthen their attack in the coming days.

Eindhoven are managed by former Man Utd striker Ruud van Nistelrooy and he’s seen his options in the final third decimated this month. Indeed, Liverpool signed PSV talisman Cody Gakpo, while Chelsea later landed Noni Madueke.

The Daily Mail added their take on the story, claiming Ten Hag is ‘still reluctant’ to let players leave. That’s despite Elanga tumbling down the pecking order this season.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Wout Weghorst, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho are all favoured ahead of Elanga. Jadon Sancho has since returned to full first-team training and will expect to feature ahead of Elanga too.

The Mail’s report reckons Elanga is ‘frustrated’ at his lack of game-time. That would suggest he’d be open to a loan move away, though it appears Ten Hag still needs some convincing.

The Red Devils are going strong in four competitions this year and excellent strength in depth will become ever more vital as the season wears on.

Elsewhere, the Sun report PSV are mulling a move for another attacker with Man Utd connections – Adnan Januzaj.

The 27-year-old Belgium international was on United’s books between 2011-17. He was a rare bright spark in the ill-fated David Moyes season.

Januzaj currently plays for Sevilla who are surprisingly in the midst of a relegation battle in LaLiga. Januzaj has barely got a kick this season and PSV are ‘looking’ into a move that would clearly benefit both parties.
