Erik ten Hag responds to Marcus Rashford exit talk; hints at Cristiano Ronaldo start as Man Utd duo ruled out
Erik ten Hag fully expects Marcus Rashford to remain at Manchester United amid speculation linking the forward with Paris St Germain.
Reports from France suggest PSG have spoken to Rashford’s representatives about a switch to the Ligue 1 champions, despite the player he happy at Old Trafford.
New PSG boss Christophe Galtier is on the hunt for a versatile forward who can play out wide or through the middle. And that is where England attacker Rashford enters the equation.
But according to Ten Hag, the 24-year-old, who only has 12 months left on his contract, will be going nowhere this summer.
Speaking at his press conference for Saturday’s trip to Brentford, the Dutchman said: “He’s really important.
“You have seen from the first day I’m here, I’m really happy with him, I don’t want to lose him.
“He’s definitely in our plans at Manchester United.”
While Rashford is seemingly staying put, United continue to be linked with new signings.
Midfielders Adrien Rabiot and Frenkie de Jong continue to be spoken about, but Ten Hag states that he and the board are on the same page when it comes to transfer dealings.
He added: “I’m happy, I think we’re co-operating really well. I cannot talk about players under contract at other clubs.”
Ronaldo looking sharper for Brentford clash
United looked toothless in attack in their shock loss to Brighton. However, Ten Hag has hinted that wantaway Cristiano Ronaldo could be back in the starting XI on Saturday.
Speaking about the Portuguese legend, he said: “He had a good training week. He’s had two half-games (against Rayo Vallecano in pre-season and Brighton) and for the starting XI we will see tomorrow.
“I have made the decision, I keep it.”
Two players who will be missing against the Bees, however, are Anthony Martial and Victor Lindelof.
But whoever lines up at the Community Stadium, Ten Hag is just looking for a positive result.
He added: “I know there is always pressure. I have the experience, how it is, I know we have to win every game, I know the fans, everyone expects Man Utd to win every game, we have to deal with that and all I can do is prepare the team as well as I can this weekend.”
