Top source confirms how much Man Utd will have to pay for permanent Marcel Sabitzer transfer

Marcel Sabitzer of Man Utd

Manchester United are still giving serious thought to buying Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich, which has led a trusted reporter to reveal the asking price.

Sabitzer signed for Man Utd on loan for the rest of the season during the January transfer window to provide cover for the then-injured Christian Eriksen. There has been some uncertainty as to what the future will hold for the Bayern man after this season, though.

Man Utd are looking to make a different midfield signing to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s options further. However, that is irrespective of Sabitzer’s future. Indeed, even if a new face arrives at Old Trafford, the club could still try to sign Sabitzer on a permanent basis.

To do so, they will have to make an appropriate bid to Bayern. And according to Sky Sports Germany expert Florian Plettenberg, the Bundesliga giants have now made their request.

Bayern will be asking for a transfer fee of €25m (£21.7m) in order to sanction the sale of Sabitzer this summer.

Plettenberg has relayed that Man Utd would be interested in keeping the Austria international for longer. However, they are yet to progress with any talks with Bayern while they are waiting for their ownership situation to settle down.

The Glazers are currently listening to offers for Man Utd from two prospective buyers: Sheikh Jassim or Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Once the process is complete, they might be able to make firmer plans for their summer transfer activity.

Midfield a third priority for Man Utd

As Plettenberg has reminded, Ten Hag’s priorities will be to sign a centre-forward and a centre-back before turning the focus to his midfield.

Whether Sabitzer will be a part of their plans for the latter task will still take some deliberating. Due to injury, he might not get another chance to prove his worth on the pitch for Man Utd before they have to make a decision.

Before his absence began, Sabitzer had made 18 appearances for Man Utd, scoring three goals and providing one assist. He featured in the Carabao Cup final, which Man Utd won.

On the verge of confirming their place in the Champions League for next season, Ten Hag’s team are also aiming to lift the FA Cup this season. They will have to defeat Premier League champions and local rivals Man City to get their hands on that piece of silverware, though.

Sabitzer, for what it’s worth, is under contract with parent club Bayern until 2025. He joined them from RB Leipzig back in 2021 and has made 54 appearances in their colours, scoring twice and making the same number of assists.
