Manchester United are likely to go back in for a top target who is ‘aware’ of their interest, while Arsenal could cut short a loan spell – both in all the latest Transfer Gossip.
MAN UTD STILL WANT GAKPO
Manchester United are highly likely to pursue Cody Gakpo again in the next two transfer windows, with the PSV Eindhoven star ‘aware’ of such interest.
The Red Devils made attacking signings one of their top transfer priorities in the recent summer market. In the end, they only signed Ajax winger Antony to the tune of £85million.
Erik ten Hag’s side also looked at Gakpo – as did Leeds United and Southampton. Ultimately, though, the Netherlands winger chose to stay at PSV.
Nevertheless, Forbes claims that Man Utd’s chase for Gakpo is far from over.
Indeed, Gakpo’s 10 goals and nine assists already this season – as well as his two Nations League goals – have reportedly made it ‘more likely’ that Ten Hag will go back in for his fellow countryman.
Furthermore, United have been convinced by Ten Hag’s successful raids on the Dutch transfer market this summer. Lisandro Martinez, Antony and Tyrell Malacia have made club chiefs ready to trust Ten Hag’s judgement in that area once again.
A third advantage for Man Utd over Gakpo is that Ten Hag and the winger work with the same SEG agency in the Netherlands. That factor will reportedly prove a potential turning point in talks.
Forbes adds that the Red Devils went as far as agreeing personal terms with Gakpo in the summer. However, they did not submit a bid to PSV.
Still, Gakpo is reportedly ‘aware’ that United are likely to come back in for him.
The forward has scored eight goals and assisted six others in the Eredivisie this season. He has also made a flying start to PSV’s Europa League campaign, scoring as he took the captain’s armband in their first game.
On the international stage, his form has made his inclusion in Louis van Gaal’s squad for Qatar a certainty.
ARSENAL CONSIDERING MARCELO FLORES MOVE
Arsenal are considering ending Marcelo Flores’ loan spell early amid his lack of game time for Real Oviedo, a report claims.
The Gunners signed the 18-year-old from Ipswich and before his loan spell, he impressed in the London club’s youth ranks.
Last season, attacker Flores netted 11 goals and three assists in a mix of Under-18s and Under-23s action.
Such form led to his sole appearance on the Arsenal first-team bench against Crystal Palace in April. And in the summer, Arsenal sent him out on loan to Real Oviedo in the Spanish second division.
However, Flores has only had a bit-part role with his loan club so far this term.
According to Record Mexico, Arsenal are considering cutting the spell short and finding the three-cap Mexico international a new club for the second half of the campaign.
Flores has yet to complete a 90-minute stint for Oviedo, with a 75-minute run-out his best effort so far.
What’s more, he has only managed two starts from seven league games.
TRANSFER GOSSIP – BARCELONA CONSIDERING DEMBELE SALE
Barcelona are seriously considering selling winger Ousmane Dembele, according to a report.
The France international looked highly likely to leave Camp Nou as a free agent this summer.
However, he signed fresh terms and his new terms run out in the summer of 2024.
With only two years on the deal, though, Diari Ara claims Barcelona are once again considering whether to move him on.
And reports have revealed how Dembele has a £42million release clause in his new contract.
Barcelona spent an initial £96million on Dembele in 2017, with the deal with Borussia Dortmund rising to a potential £135million.
They are therefore aware that with the attacker turning 26 next summer, they would be wise to avoid too big a loss on the investment.
