Transfer Gossip: Cristiano Ronaldo makes Man Utd aware of offer on table as Mendes talks with familiar suitor; Chelsea flop in demand

Man Utd striker Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has an offer on the table from another club and has made Manchester United aware, while Chelsea striker Timo Werner is on the radar of a European giant, according to Friday’s transfer gossip.

MAN UTD ASKED TO SET CRISTIANO RONALDO PRICE

Cristiano Ronaldo has informed Manchester United that another club have made an offer for him.

That’s according to The Sun, who have provided the latest twist when it comes to Ronaldo’s future. The striker wants to leave Manchester United this summer, just one year after returning, so he can continue playing in the Champions League elsewhere.

On Thursday, there was talk of further meetings with the club to resolve his future. According to sources such as Sky Sports and The Athletic, Ronaldo still wants to leave despite these conversations.

And The Sun are now claiming Ronaldo has an offer on the table from another side, who are not named.

Because of the interest in his services, agent Jorge Mendes has asked Manchester United to at least set an asking price for Ronaldo’s services. He cost them a fee of around £13.5m to bring back from Juventus last summer.

One year remains on Ronaldo’s contract at Old Trafford and it can be extended further. Therefore, United have ruled out suggestions of letting Ronaldo leave for free.

But they seem to be planning for a season in which he is part of their squad, despite his absence from the bulk of pre-season training for personal reasons.

Their efforts to persuade him his future remains in Manchester have not been successful so far, though. Hence, it will be interesting to see what happens with the offer he is subject of.

Sporting suggested for Cristiano Ronaldo

Earlier, The Athletic had confirmed that Mendes has held talks with Ronaldo’s first club, Sporting CP, about taking the Portugal legend back.

Should Manchester United keep Cristiano Ronaldo?

Should Manchester United keep Cristiano Ronaldo?

Do Manchester United need Cristiano Ronaldo next season?

It would be difficult for them to fund a move, especially when it comes to his wages. Furthermore, head coach Ruben Amorim needs to be convinced Ronaldo would not be too disruptive to their dynamic, in the way he perhaps has been for United despite his 24 goals last season.

But there would be commercial benefits to bringing in Ronaldo. So it remains to be seen if Sporting will step up any interest after a number of other suitors – like Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich – ruled themselves out.

TIMO WERNER KEPT IN MIND BY REAL MADRID

Chelsea striker Timo Werner

Real Madrid are reportedly considering Chelsea flop Timo Werner as an attacking reinforcement – but will only decide whether to make a move or not after the UEFA Super Cup.

According to Diario Sport, Carlo Ancelotti would be happy for Real not to make any more signings this summer. But one area they are lacking depth is at centre-forward.

Karim Benzema is one of the best strikers in the world, so will remain first choice. But there are not many options to back him up. Therefore, Sport suggest that if the Super Cup on August 10th is not successful, Real may enter the market.

A few suggestions have been made to them, but one player they are now pondering is Werner. He has endured two difficult seasons with Chelsea since joining from RB Leipzig.

Sport suggest Chelsea are looking to loan Werner out for the upcoming season. Such an operation would suit Real Madrid, who do not want to spend too heavily.

Los Blancos showed an interest in the Germany international before Chelsea won the race for him. Now, they are thinking about him again, as also reported by Defensa Central.

LIVERPOOL AND NEWCASTLE WATCH SHEFFIELD UNITED STARLET

Will Osula of Sheffield United

Liverpool and Newcastle United are monitoring Sheffield United youngster Will Osula, although his next move is likely to be to a lower tier rather than a higher one.

Osula is an academy graduate at Bramall Lane and made five appearances in the Championship towards the back end of last season. Hopes are high for his development.

According to the Sheffield Star, the teenager is being tracked by Liverpool and Newcastle. Both clubs are keeping an eye to the future to ensure long-term success in the Premier League.

Liverpool have regularly picked up young talents from clubs of a lower stature. For example, Joe Gomez and Harvey Elliott followed such a route in the current squad.

Newcastle will also be putting the building blocks in place for a bigger future under their Saudi-backed owners.

But for now, Osula will be developing further down the league system. The report indicates Sheffield United are tempted to send him on loan to League One outfit Burton Albion after seeing how his friend Daniel Jebbison improved there last season.

In the long-term, though, Osula may have a future at a higher level.
