Transfer Gossip: Man Utd starter wants out as three Euro giants plot bitter Ten Hag blow; Chelsea to axe two in January

Man Utd stars Diogo Dalot, Scott McTominay, Jadon Sancho and Fred

Three heavyweight suitors are chasing a regular Man Utd starter who is hunting for a new club with his agent, while Chelsea want to axe two first-teamers as soon as possible – both in Wednesday’s Transfer Gossip.

Diogo Dalot ‘is looking around with his agent to find a new team’ and one of three teams cited as potential landing spots are managed by the man who brought him to Old Trafford, per a report.

Dalot split minutes almost equally with Aaron Wan-Bissaka last season. The pair fought a hotly-contested selection battle at right-back, though the change of manager was always likely to favour Dalot.

Erik ten Hag took the reins and his system relies on attack-minded full-backs. For all of his defensive abilities, Wan-Bissaka has never impacted the game in the final third.

Dalot has quickly established himself as the first choice right-back, though according to Calciomercato, it’s surprisingly claimed he wants out.

His current deal expires in 2023, though United do hold an option for a further 12 months.

Fabrizio Romano previously claimed United want to tie the Portuguese international down to a new, long-term deal. Only failing that will they trigger the one-year extension.

However, talk of Dalot’s apparent unhappiness at Old Trafford is beginning to swell.

Spanish outlet Sport claimed Dalot is unconvinced by Ten Hag’s project at Manchester United. Calciomercato echo those sentiments, stating he’s actively searching for a new club.

Dalot’s heavyweight suitors named

Barcelona, Juventus and Roma are all namechecked in the piece as potential landing spots.

Barcelona have been linked with Dalot for some time, while Roma are managed by the man who brought Dalot to Old Trafford initially – Jose Mourinho.

Reports recently emerged linking Man Utd to an attacking upgrade in the position in the form of Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries.

If Dalot does indeed want out, links to Dutch international Dumfries now make more sense.

Chelsea want to offload two stars in January and FIFA regulations could ensure one player in particular doesn’t play a single minute under Graham Potter, per a report.

The Blues were Europe’s biggest spenders last summer, forking out around £254m in total.

However, a change of manager came just days after the window closed and a new boss at the helm can often result in a squad shake-up.

According to 90min, Chelsea want to ditch two players as soon as they can in January, including summer loanee, Denis Zakaria.

The versatile Swiss international arrived on a season-long loan from Juventus. However, the 25-year-old is yet to make a single appearance for Chelsea and hasn’t made any matchday squads.

90min report Zakaria is firmly out of new boss Graham Potter’s plans. As such, Chelsea see no reason to delay the inevitable and hope to send Zakaria back to Turin in January.

Their issue there is FIFA regulations stipulate a player cannot play for three different teams in the same season.

Zakaria played twice for Juventus before joining Chelsea, meaning if he debuts for the Blues, he won’t be able to play for a third team in the 2022/23 season.

Logic would dictate Juventus would only take Zakaria back if they could line up another January exit. As such, Zakaria may never make his Chelsea debut to ensure that avenue remains open.

It’s acknowledged Juventus are under no obligation to take Zakaria back. Chelsea may therefore be reliant on a change of heart in Turin, or a change of manager to someone who views Zakaria more favourably than Max Allegri does.

Two routes open for Ziyech

Aside from Zakaria, Chelsea are also open to selling Hakim Ziyech.

The Moroccan winger, 29, has linked with AC Milan and then Ajax last summer. The Dutch club wanted to re-sign Ziyech to fill the void left by Antony, but the late nature of their Man Utd deal ensured a Ziyech deal couldn’t be completed in time.

Chelsea will reportedly consider an 18-month loan if it gets Ziyech off their books. Part-owner, Todd Boehly, would prefer an outright sale, though Ziyech’s wages might prevent that.

Ziyech is already down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and a deal for RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku in 2023 is taking shape.

The Frenchman is understood to have already passed a medical. Nkunku holds a release clause worth just over £50m.

Finally, any hopes of Leeds United signing PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo have been brutally dashed.

The Netherlands winger was heavily linked with a move to either Elland Road or Old Trafford last summer.

Man Utd ultimately signed Antony instead, while Luis Sinisterra’s arrival put a Gakpo deal on the backburner at Leeds.

However, talk of a move being revived has been rampant amid Gakpo’s sublime start to the season.

Gakpo has 13 goals and 10 assists to his name after just 16 appearances for PSV this year. Many a club will be kicking themselves given his reported valuation early last summer was just £35m.

Now, journalist Florian Plettenberg has provided an update on the chances of Gakpo moving to Leeds, and it makes for grim reading.

He tweeted a January transfer is possible, though not to Leeds. Gakpo ‘doesn’t want to join’ the Whites and will instead wait for ‘bigger clubs’.
