Paper Talk: Ronaldo plans to leave as Man Utd turn to France for new striker

Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester United frustration during Premier League clash against West Ham at Old Trafford

Cristiano Ronaldo is demanding his agent finds him a new club, with Manchester United looking to France for a new striker, Aston Villa are keen to land a Leeds star, while Thursday’s transfer gossip claims Atletico Madrid interest in a Tottenham man.

Cristiano Ronaldo is intent on leaving Manchester United in the wake of his axing in the Manchester derby on Sunday.

The 37-year-old began his first season back at Old Trafford in style with a debut brace against Newcastle. He also hit crucial goals in the Champions League group stages.

However, he has become embroiled in off-field leaks about dressing room cliques. There are also reports of a power struggle with out-of-form captain Harry Maguire.

But Ronaldo’s absence for the 4-1 defeat to Manchester City has caused the latest stir. Ralf Rangnick claimed that the forward had a hip injury.

But instead of staying in Manchester to ‘recover’, Ronaldo supposedly travelled to his native Portugal before kick-off on Sunday. And that decision reportedly stunned his teammates – and also angered Rangnick.

As per The Sun, they claim Ronaldo flew to Portugal in a rage after learning he would only be a substitute on Sunday.

He’s now back in Manchester and, in a pointed dig at Rangnick, posted a picture of himself on Instagram. This accompanied the words: “Hard work towards a strong recovery. Eager to get back on the pitch and help the team.”

Ronaldo mind is up

They claim Ronaldo is putting pressure on Rangnick to include him in the same to face Tottenham on Saturday.

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly very unhappy at Manchester United as is looking for a new club with Juventus and Real Madrid returns not possible

Nonetheless, The Sun claims that Ronaldo is intent on moving on this summer. And while Jorge Mendes is trying to act as a peacemaker, Ronaldo reportedly has told his agent  to find him a new club.

Furthermore, the report claims Old Trafford officials already know Ronaldo wants out if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League.

One of the players United are considering as a replacement in attack this summer is Moussa Dembele.

Jason Denayer, Moussa Dembele, Lyon, September 2021.

The Lyon striker is available for a modest £25m this summer, with his deal now having just 15 months left.

Now the Daily Mail claims United are considering moving for him in the wake of questions of Ronaldo.

As well as the Portuguese, United also look likely to say farewell to Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan will leave as a free agent at the end of his contract.

Furthermore, questions are being asked over the futures of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.

And with just a year left on his Lyon deal come the summer, Dembele could fit the bill for United.

The former Fulham and Celtic striker has nine goals in 19 Ligue 1 games this season, including five in his last seven.

Aston Villa will prioritise a move for Kalvin Phillips this summer – if Leeds are relegated to the Championship.

The midfielder’s deal at Leeds expires in summer 2024 and talks have been held over an extension.

However, the England man remains in high demand and is yet to commit his future to Elland Road.

Villa have been keen before having tried to sign him back in 2019.

As per The Athletic, Steven Gerrard is keen to bring the player to Villa Park this summer.

And any move will be backed by Villa’s recruitment team, who are very much ready to make Phillips a top target.

Villa can add to Leeds’ relegation fears on Thursday night when they travel to Elland Road in a crunch clash.

Jesse Marsch’s side currently sit two points clear of the drop zone with 18th Burnley having played a game less.

Atletico Madrid are ready to swoop on Tottenham for out-of-favour full-back Emerson Royal.

The Brazilian moved to Spurs over the summer in a £25m deal from Barcelona.

However, he’s struggled badly and has slipped down the pecking order under Antonio Conte.

A summer exit looks to be on the cards, with the north London club seemingly inviting bids. That said, it seems they may struggle to get their money back.

Furthermore, a lack of suitors suggests Conte may find it hard to find a taker for the full-back.

That said, The Sun claims Atletico boss Diego Simeone wants to take Emerson back to LaLiga.

The reigning LaLiga champions are still seeking a permanent replacement for Kieran Trippier. As such, they claim Emerson may fit the bill – but only if the price is right.

Inter Milan are also reportedly keen.
