Manchester United have opened talks to bring in an experienced Bundesliga star in the January transfer window, while Friday’s Transfer Gossip claims Tottenham have spoken to the agent of a France striker currently playing in Germany.

Manchester United are reportedly in talks to sign Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer.

The 33-year-old is out of contract with the Bundesliga club at the end of the season and will be available on a free transfer.

United currently have Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle United as their back-up club stalwart David De Gea.

But according to ESPN, United are now preparing a move to bring in Sommer as competition for De Gea next summer.

Dubravka, meanwhile, is expected to return to Newcastle at the end of the season.

De Gea will be out of contract at the end of the season, although United do have the option to extend his deal by another year.

Sommer could go head-to-head-with De Gea

If the Red Devils do choose to activate that option then it could end up being a straight shootout between De Gea and Sommer to be the long-term Old Trafford No.1.

However, United are yet to open discussions with De Gea and could allow him to leave for nothing next summer;

If that happens then the club would need to bring in two new stoppers, with a younger alternative likely to be brought in as cover for Sommer.

Sommer started all four of Switzerland’s games at the World Cup but was beaten six times in the last-16 loss to Portugal.

Tottenham have reportedly held talks with the agent of France international striker Randal Kolo Muani.

Foot Mercato, claims Spurs are eyeing the Eintracht Frankfurt forward alongside Liverpool, who are said to be leading the chase for the player’s signature.

Muani has reinvented himself in Germany after joining Frankfurt on a free transfer from Nantes last summer.

The 24-year-old’s impressive form led to a spot in the France squad for the 2022 World Cup after Christopher Nkunku was forced to pull out through injury.

Muani has scored eight goals in 23 appearances for Frankfurt this season and featured against Tottenham in the Champions League group stage.

In total he has notched 51 times in 186 games and is regarded as one of the top young prospects in European football.

Aston Villa and Leicester have reportedly enquired over the availability of Inter Milan centre-back Stefan de Vrij in January.

The Premier League duo, along with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, have asked agent Federico Pastorello for information on the Netherlands international’s current status.

The 30-year-old will be available on a free transfer next summer and has also been strongly tipped to join Tottenham.

However, it appears that midlands rivals Villa and Leicester are aiming to strike deals of their own, as reported on FC Inter News.

De Vrij has scored nine times in 181 appearances for Inter since moving from Lazio in 2018.
