Man United transfer latest: Red Devils to miss out on Vitinha as PSG agree to meet the asking price

Vitinha, Portugal v Czech Republic June 2022

Manchester United look to have missed out on the signing of Porto midfielder Vitinha who is reported to be closing in on a switch to Paris Saint-Germain.

Reds boss Erik ten Hag is chasing at least one new midfielder this summer and Vitinha is a target. However he could be left frustrated as the player appears to be heading to Paris. That is according to Fabrizio Romano who claims a deal is virtually done.

The transfer guru claims that a fee in the region of £34million has been agreed between PSG and Porto. He also says that personal terms have been agreed. The deal now just needs to be rubberstamped.

“Paris Saint-Germain are set to sign Vitinha from Porto, here we go! The official proposal worth €40m has been accepted after personal terms agreed today,” Romano tweeted. “PSG and Porto are now preparing paperworks. He’s gonna be the first signing of Luís Campos, his real priority.”

If the news is correct it will come as a setback to Ten Hag. Midfield is definitely an area of concern for him and he needs players. Frenkie de Jong is clearly a top target but a deal has yet to be struck with Barcelona.

It is now claimed the Catalan giants are demanding £73million for a deal to happen. United are reported to have offered just £50million plus add-ons so will need to go a bit higher.

Again Romano has given an insight into the transfer. He says it is still very much alive but United will need to meet Barcelona’s valuation.

United’s failure to meet asking prices appears to have already cost them with Vitinha. It was claimed earlier this week that United’s initial offer for the midfielder had fallen short.

Manchester United manager expects Frenkie De Jong to complete move from Barcelona this summer, but why?

The 22-year-old has a release clause of £34million in his contract, but United did not meet it. PSG did and the player is on his way to France once the paperwork is sorted.

Vitinha PSG switch a setback for United

The diminutive midfielder has been a revelation for Porto this season. He made 38 appearances as Porto completed the league and cup double. He is the kind of defensive midfielder that United have been targeting. So missing out on him will be a blow to Ten Hag.

The Dutchman will not be panicking just yet. There is time to land the players he needs, but it is proving to be difficult. He clearly has a budget and is sticking to it. It may have cost United the signature of Vitinha, while De Jong may also slip through the net.

It will be interesting to see if United match Barca’s asking price or switch to other targets. Christian Eriksen and Ruben Neves are also possible signings but there is lots of work to be done ahead of the new season.
