Man Utd transfer links of no interest to star who ‘loves the club’ as huge new contract beckons

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has revealed that discussions over a proposed new contract at Old Trafford are taking place after revealing his ‘love’ for the club.

Having fallen completely out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which included a loan stint at AC Milan, the Portuguese has since emerged as Erik ten Hag’s first-choice right-back.

However, that has not stopped rumours of United moving for a potential replacement, with Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries and Norwich star Max Aarons names who are often linked.

If a new addition does come it’s likely it will be as a replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and as competition for Dalot.

And the 23-year-old has spoken about his affection for the club he joined in 2018 for £19million.

With a lucrative new deal on the horizon, the Portugal international said: “I think we are in a position to say that we are talking about it, we are negotiating, we are seeing how both parties will benefit. It is no secret that I am happy to be here.

“I love this club and I love to play for this club. We will see how things progress, but we are in a good direction for the team and, for me, this is the most important and, hopefully, individually I can still help the team.”

Dalot proves his worth to Ten Hag

Dalot, who was a Jose Mourinho signing, has now made 87 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring twice in that time.

It’s this season, however, that the full-back has really made his mark for the club. Dalot has played 22 times in all competitions, keeping Wan-Bissaka on the sidelines in the process.

That’s a far cry from the 2020/21 campaign where he spent the campaign on loan in Italy in Milan. Indeed, the Serie A were keen on striking a permanent deal for Dalot, only for United to stand firm and the player has not looked back since.

Ten Hag’s men are next in action on Tuesday evening when they host Charlton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
