Juventus are trying to sign a new striker in 2022 but could turn to either Manchester United or Arsenal if they don’t get the man they really want, according to a report.
A new era began at Juventus in the summer following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Man Utd. Replacing the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is not a task that could be completed in one summer. Therefore, they continue to be linked with a number of other forwards.
They re-signed Moise Kean from Everton to help bridge the gap. However, a new number nine remains a priority; it was even something they wanted while Ronaldo was still at the club.
Their top target in that regard is Dusan Vlahovic of Fiorentina. Although the two clubs are rivals, a number of players have switched between them in recent years. Federico Bernardeschi and Federico Chiesa both traded Florence for Turin, for example.
Juventus have hope that Vlahovic will follow them after his rise to prominence in recent years. He seems destined to leave La Viola and has been linked with Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City among others.
The chance to stay in Serie A – a league he scored 21 goals in last season – could be enticing. But it wouldn’t be easy for Juve to sign him given all the competition.
Therefore, Calciomercato claim they are widening their wish-list to include a couple of familiar faces from the Premier League.
On their shortlist is Anthony Martial of Man Utd. The Frenchman has suffered a decline in form over the past couple of years and may be a casualty of the return of Ronaldo.
Although still under contract until 2024, it may be in the best interests of all concerned for the former Monaco man to move on.
United are open to selling Martial, who has also been linked with Newcastle. But it may be preferable for them to sell abroad. Juventus could therefore provide the solution.
But another candidate the Old Lady are considering is Alexandre Lacazette of Arsenal. Out of contract at the end of the season, it seems certain that these are the final months of his Gunners career.
Renewing his deal would be risky financially for Arsenal, and Lacazette may have little intention of staying anyway. At this stage of his career – he is now 30 – he wants to be competing at the highest possible level.
Arsenal have been in good form recently and could be on the up. But Lacazette wants European football, which is more likely with Juventus than in north London, despite the Italians’ mixed start to the season.
A move to Italy has been speculated for a while. It remains to be seen if Arsenal would sell in January for a small fee or keep him until the end of his contract and lose him for free.
Atletico still in Lacazette race
However, Juventus are not the only suitors for Lacazette. According to La Razon, Atletico Madrid – who have tried to sign him in the past – are still keen.
Atleti are also in the market for a new centre-forward and have been eyeing a few options. But Lacazette still appeals and may be the most economical deal.
At the turn of the year, the former Lyon forward will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs.
It seems he will have the choice of playing in Italy or Spain, but in both cases he merely seems an alternative.
Atletico are focusing on RB Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi – also wanted by Liverpool – whereas he is just one of six Vlahovic alternatives for Juve.
The Serie A side are also keeping tabs on Martial, Mauro Icardi, Darwin Nunez, Gianluca Scamacca and Lorenzo Lucca.
