Man Utd transfer news: Scholes reveals ‘Ten Hag type’ striker who could be more likely arrival than Kane or Osimhen

Paul Scholes has suggested a Serie A striker other than Victor Osimhen who Manchester United should be targeting this summer.
Finding a centre-forward is on Man Utd’s agenda for the upcoming transfer window. They have been relying on Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in the role this season, having let go of Cristiano Ronaldo in November.
Wout Weghorst arrived during the January transfer window to provide further cover while on loan from Burnley for the remainder of the season.
But by the summer, Man Utd will be looking to add a new focal point to their attack in order to take them to the next level.
In that regard, they have been linked with Harry Kane of Tottenham Hotspur, or Victor Osimhen from Napoli.
According to Scholes, though, it could be difficult to sign the former, while the latter might be more suited to other teams.
“I don’t think Kane will move from Tottenham at this point,” Scholes said on BT Sport.
“I think it’s tricky business dealing with Daniel Levy, he could string you on right to the very last minute of the transfer window and leave you with nothing.
“I think there are other players out there, like Osimhen. I haven’t seen loads of him, but I see him as more of a [Didier] Drogba type, possibly more of a Chelsea-type centre-forward.
“Is he going to get those kind of crosses at United? That’s the thing.”
Scholes says Man Utd should sign Lautaro Martinez
Instead, Scholes is recommending World Cup winner, Lautaro Martinez, as someone who would be suitable for Erik ten Hag. Coincidentally, TEAMtalk actually revealed last month that Man Utd are among his admirers in view of the summer.
Now, Scholes has elaborated on why Martinez might be the right fit at Old Trafford.
“I like Lautaro Martinez at Inter Milan,” Scholes explained.
“I think he’s a Ten Hag type of player, he likes a centre-forward that will run about, be aggressive, get against people. There are options.
“I like Manchester United’s centre-forwards as they are. I like Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial. We all know the quality they’ve got.
“There are options out there and let’s hope we can bring one in.”
Martinez has been with Inter since 2018, when they plucked him from Racing Club in his native Argentina.
Since then, the centre-forward has scored 91 goals from 218 games for the club. He also now has a record of 46 caps and 21 goals for the Argentine national team.
This season at Inter, Martinez has scored 14 goals from 26 Serie A appearances, amid an overall tally of 17 goals from 37 matches.
Playing in the Premier League would be a new experience for the 25-year-old. Perhaps Man Utd could be the club to offer him that platform.
As things stand, though, Inter’s number 10 is under contract with his current employers until 2026.
