Man Utd transfer news: Third raid on Ajax is on as another star for Dutch giants confirms talks with Erik ten Hag
Manchester United are reportedly putting the ground work in for yet another raid on Ajax with another of the Amsterdam club’s young stars confirming he has held transfer talks with Erik ten Hag.
The new United boss was allowed to spend over £200m this summer as he got to work on rebuilding his squad. He made six signings in total, with the capture of £86m Brazilian Antony the most eye-catching arrival of all. He signed on deadline day to compliment a squad that had already been boosted by the likes of Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro.
It took time for Ten Hag to start working his magic with his new side. Embarrassing losses in their first two games, to Brighton and Brentford, raised early question marks. However, an unexpected win over Liverpool in matchday three was the cataylst for an excellent run of form.
Since then, United have won their last three games too, to make it four wins on the trot and climbing to fifth in the table.
And while the feel-good factor is definitely returning to the club, United will look to build on their winning run.
However, no top side sits still for long and, despite lavishing a fortune on new talent this summer, plans are underway for further new arrivals in January.
Indeed, one such player United were linked with earlier this summer was Ajax striker Brian Brobbey. The Dutch striker started his career at Ajax, before moving to Germany with RB Leipzig.
After failing to settle in the Bundesliga, he rejoined Ajax on a six-month loan in the January window. That move became a permanent return over the summer. However, there were claims United could look to hijack the deal.
Brian Brobbey confirms Man Utd talks
Now confirming links to United, he has described the Red Devils as his ‘dream club’. Furthermore, Brobbey also admits Ten Hag tried to recruit him this summer.
“I am very happy for [Erik ten Hag] and he really deserves it after everything he has done for Ajax. If only he brings me with him in two years…. no no.. joking joking!” Brobbey said when asked about Ten Hag’s move.
However, Brobbey insists he’s not thinking too far ahead despite describing United as a dream club.
“Erik [ten Hag] sent me a message, yes, to congratulate me, and to tell me that he would like to have me at Manchester United,” Brobbey told ESPN.nl.
“But I’m not finished at Ajax yet, I want to show something here first.”
Should Brobbey continue to impress at Ajax, he may well soon follow Antony and Martinez to Old Trafford.
The striker has scored eight times in nine Eredivisie starts since returning to Ajax.
And with United looking for more attacking options, the 20-year-old could well come into their thinking.
Indeed, reports claim the Red Devils will continue to monitor him ahead of a possible future move.
Ten Hag was the man responsible for handing Brobbey his Ajax debut in 2020 prior to his free-transfer switch to Leipzig.
