Man Utd transfers: Fabrizio Romano confirms Ten Hag will discard forgotten duo this summer in bid to raise funds

Anthony Elanga, Marcus Rashford, Alex Telles, Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay of Man Utd

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed two players will be sold by Manchester United in the summer after failing to make a good enough impression this season.

A host of players look set to leave Old Trafford later this year as manager Erik ten Hag begins the next phase of his squad overhaul. Anthony Elanga, Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Brandon Williams are just some of the players who will be put up for sale.

And they could be followed out of the door by left-back Alex Telles. The Brazilian did not do enough to earn Ten Hag’s trust in training last summer and was subsequently loaned out to Spanish club Sevilla. Ten Hag replaced Telles with Tyrell Malacia, who has provided Luke Shaw with competition and backup this season.

Telles will have been hoping to enjoy a brilliant season in Spain so he could return to England and play regularly for Man Utd next term. But things have not worked out that way and Telles has struggled to get into Sevilla’s starting eleven since returning from a knee injury in February.

Writing on Twitter, Romano revealed that the 11-cap international is poised to return to Old Trafford this summer as Sevilla have no plans to make his loan deal permanent.

But he is ‘expected’ to depart Man Utd once again before next season starts. And while the Red Devils will consider loan approaches for Telles, they would much rather sell him as this would hand Ten Hag a timely transfer boost.

Telles is in the same situation as centre-back Eric Bailly. The 29-year-old has spent the season on loan in France with Marseille.

They had the obligation to buy him if he reached a certain number of appearances but have been left disappointed by his poor displays. As such, Marseille boss Igor Tudor has been told to keep Bailly on the bench so the purchase option is not triggered.

Man Utd outcasts ‘will return’ this summer

Romano states that just like Telles, Bailly ‘will return’ to Man Utd once the current season is over. Man Utd chiefs will then evaluate the offers that come in for the Ivorian.

Bailly might suffer from a lack of potential suitors after enduring a poor season in Ligue 1. Despite this, Man Utd will do all they can to get him out of the door on a permanent basis.

Selling Telles and Bailly will not be the crucial factor in Man Utd landing their preferred transfer targets this summer. However, they could hand Ten Hag extra money for his pursuits.

transfermarkt rate the pair at a combined €20m (£17.5m), so Man Utd will be hoping to get a fee in this region when selling the duo.

Ten Hag offloading a plethora of players may seem like a brutal cull of the Man Utd squad. But this is what the Dutchman must do to get Man Utd challenging the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.

Over the years Man Utd have spent big money on players who have not lived up to expectations. Ten Hag must get rid of such players so they do not spoil the mood in the dressing room.

Meanwhile, City are ‘convinced’ they will beat Tottenham and Man Utd to a surprise deal, according to Romano.
