Man Utd transfers: Fabrizio Romano reveals Ten Hag must greenlight ‘crazy bid’ for Bundesliga ace as timeline for move emerges
Fabrizio Romano has revealed the circumstances that will see a Manchester United striker target leave his current club, with Erik ten Hag finding out the Red Devils must pay way over €70million (£62m) to complete a deal.
Ten Hag is in need of a new centre-forward to lead his attack for next season. His current options in the position are Wout Weghorst and Anthony Martial, with Marcus Rashford preferring to operate out wide on the left flank.
Despite Martial’s struggles in a Man Utd shirt, Ten Hag has expressed his desire to keep the Frenchman. Martial will likely act as backup for the top-class new striker who will arrive at Old Trafford in the summer. Weghorst, meanwhile, will be allowed to return to parent club Burnley at the end of his loan spell.
Harry Kane is high up in Ten Hag’s thinking. The England captain could be convinced to leave his beloved Tottenham amid their struggles to qualify for next season’s Champions League, with the search for a new head coach also proving to be complicated.
However, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is notoriously hard to deal with. He refused to sell Kane to Manchester City in summer 2021, quoting Pep Guardiola’s side at an astronomical £150million.
Due to this, Man Utd must identify alternative striker targets in case Kane ends up remaining in north London.
And one potential signing is that of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani. The six-time France international has been in sensational form this term, having notched 20 goals and 14 assists in 40 matches. That record is made even more impressive by the fact this season is Kolo Muani’s first in Germany, as he joined Frankfurt from Nantes last summer.
On Monday, RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins revealed on Twitter that Bayern Munich and Man Utd are ‘very interested’ in signing the attacker.

Hawkins added that Frankfurt will accept bids worth €100m (£88m) for Kolo Muani.
Romano has now provided his information on Kolo Muani. Writing on Twitter, the reporter stated that Frankfurt are ‘aware’ of Bayern’s interest in him. There are also several Premier League teams keeping tabs on the situation, though Romano does not name Man Utd specifically.
Romano writes that there is no chance Frankfurt will accept an offer worth between €60-70m (£53-62m) for their prized asset. Instead, Ten Hag will have to get Man Utd to submit a ‘crazy bid’ in order to sign Kolo Muani. Presumably this means the £88m offer Hawkins previously mentioned.
Ideally, Frankfurt would like to keep the 24-year-old for another campaign before potentially selling him in summer 2024, following the conclusion of next year’s European Championship.
The Bundesliga side are hoping Kolo Muani will shine with France at the Euros as this would allow them to bump up his price.
Kolo Muani could end up being a great signing for Man Utd. While he does not possess the Prem experience that Kane has, Kolo Muani is proving himself to be a big threat for defenders in Germany.
He is joint-second in the Bundesliga scoring charts, behind only Niclas Fullkrug, while no player has contributed to more goals in the division when Kolo Muani’s goals and assists are added up.
