Erik ten Hag has learned just how good a chance he has of raiding Leeds United to bring their star midfielder Tyler Adams to Manchester United in 2023.

The USA captain arrived at Elland Road in an initial £17.5m deal over the summer that could ultimately top £20.5m. And while Leeds have changed their system this season under Jesse Marsch, Adams has proved more than a useful replacement for Kalvin Phillips.

Partnering Marc Roca at the base of a two-man midfield, Adams has quickly adapted to life in the Premier League. Indeed, he has arguably been Leeds’ best player so far this season, having taken that form into the World Cup with the United States. Both David Moyes and Gary Lineker were among those wowed by the Leeds man.

So good has Adams been that a couple of teams higher up the food chain are starting to take notice of the 23-year-old.

Indeed, he was last week mentioned as a potential target for Inter Milan, with their coach Simone Inzaghi a huge admirer.

But perhaps the most eye-catching links have come from Manchester United, given the rivalry between the clubs. Per reports last month, Red Devils boss Ten Hag is still looking for another midfielder in January and is seemingly likes the look of Adams.

And while Ten Hag’s admiration for Adams has been confirmed by our exclusive, he does not believe a January switch is on the cards.

Now a report claims the player is also not in favour of a move to Manchester United mid-season.

According to transfer journalist Dean Jones, Adams is content where he is for now, having adjusted well to life at Leeds.

Tyler Adams to ‘assess options at end of season’

However, should a concrete offer come in for Adams over the summer, he claims Adams may be open to a move then.

Speaking to Givemesport, Jones explained why Ten Hag has zero chance of a January raid on Leeds. But in a worrying update for Leeds, he claims a summer departure from Elland Road could be on the cards.

“A move to Manchester United is not on at the moment. That’s not one that is active at all.

“From what I’m told, he’s going to see out the season and probably see what lands after that point.

“But it won’t surprise me at all to see him being linked with some big moves at the end of the season.”

It’s easy to see why Adams finds himself attracting attention. However, his deal at Elland Road lasts until summer 2027 and the Whites will have absolutely no desire to sell.

Furthermore, doing business with Manchester United would be the last deal they would accept with any move there undoubtedly causing outrage among fans.

However, there may come a time when Leeds will need to match Adams’ ambition. The star played Champions League football with RB Leipzig and did not look out of place in the competition. Therefore, Leeds will need to be upwardly mobile if they are to retain Adams’ services over the long term.
