Tyrell Malacia: Star gives Ten Hag his word as rival offer fails – but source reveals transfer will spell end for £15m Man Utd man

Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Tyrell Malacia with the player and his agent now giving Erik ten Hag their promise.
The 22-year-old Feyenoord full-back first emerged as a United target earlier this week as part of our Euro Paper Talk round-up. Their interest came amid claims that Malacia’s £13m move to Lyon was stalling. Indeed, with a deal agreed, the Ligue 1 side were at loggerheads with Feyenoord over how the deal would be structured.
That has allowed United to nip in with reports on Tuesday revealing United have beaten West Ham to his signature.
However, Lyon have seemingly got their act together and have since made a late appeal to resurrect their deal. But as per L’Equipe, Malacia has now given United and Ten Hag his word that he will sign for the Red Devils this summer.
Netherlands-based Voetbal International takes the saga one step further by claiming that Malacia is now ‘just one step away’ from sealing his move.
Personal terms are reportedly close to being finalised and only a few details need ironing out. Malacia’s agent, Ali Dursan, is now looking for a quick agreement with Manchester United. As such, there is a widespread expectation that the signing will be finalised soon.
As per Fabrizio Romano, United will reportedly pay an initial £13m. A further £1.73m is owing to the Dutch side in bonuses. Feyenoord are also reportedly insisting on a sell-on clause in the agreement, though the percentage is currently unknown.
Malacia now looks set to become the first signing of the Ten Hag era at Old Trafford. That’s amid reports that their No 1 target, Frenkie de Jong – coincidentally another client of Dursan – has now turned his back on the move.
Tyrell Malacia signing spells bad news for Alex Telles
The signing of Malacia is likely to mean the end of Alex Telles’ time at Old Trafford.
The Brazilian signed in a £15.4m move from Porto in October 2020, moving to United from FC Porto. Signed as back-up for Luke Shaw, the player came to United with a big reputation in Portugal.
However, he’s rarely impressed when coming into the side and now looks likely to move on.
As per the Manchester Evening News’ Samuel Lockhurst, Telles is not seen as a starting left-back by Ten Hag.
And the arrival of Malacia means Telles’ future at the club looks uncertain, with a move away now likely.
Telles has made 50 appearances for United, scoring one goal.

Tyrell Malacia to be first Manchester United signing
Manchester United have hijacked a deal for Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord who was set to join Lyon
By all accounts, Manchester United will be landing an upgrade in Malacia. The left-back has impressed for Feyenoord, with the player coming up against Ten Hag’s Ajax on more than one occasion.
The 22-year-old scored once, weighing in with four assists during 32 appearances in the Eredivisie. Malacia has five caps for the Netherlands, four of which have come this calendar year. As such, he looks a strong candidate to feature in their 2022 World Cup squad.
