Man Utd leading the hunting pack for big-money move despite fierce Newcastle pursuit

Man Utd are leading the hunting pack for Victor Osimhen despite Newcastle United’s fierce pursuit, it’s been claimed.
The two Premier League rivals have been linked with the Napoli star this season as they each look for a new striker in the summer transfer window. United are set to lose Edinson Cavani come the end of the season.
And the Toon are expected to splash their newfound cash on an upgrade to Chris Wood and Callum Wilson.
Osimhen has scored goals everywhere he has gone, including 15 in 25 games this season.
So it seems there is confidence he will succeed in the Premier League at Old Trafford and St James’ Park.
However, it is the Red Devils chiefs who look to be acting on their interest.
According to today’s edition of Italian paper Tuttosport, attention from England is ‘primarily’ from them.
That’s despite Newcastle recently sending an official to watch the 23-year-old in action.
As has been previously reported, Osimhen’s Serie A owners want a fee of €100million (£83m) if he is to leave.

Both United and the Magpies can take encouragement from the words of Andrea D’Amico, an Italian sports agent.
He helped oversee the Nigeria international move from Lille to Napoli in 2020 in a transfer believed to have cost £67.5m.
And he has now suggested Osimhen could be on the move again this year when speaking to Radio Marte.
Man Utd and Newcastle given boost
“Are Napoli in danger of receiving important offers for Osimhen in July? Yes. In the market, however, you can never foresee anything,” D’Amico said.
“The clubs think about today, they look after current events and everything will depend on how this league ends: a hard-fought championship, beautiful and different from the previous ones.
“The sporting goal is preparatory to the financial one, investments and sales will be made in view of the future but after having taken note of the results at the end of the season.”
Napoli currently find themselves three points off league leaders AC Milan in a hotly-contested title race which also involves Inter Milan.
