Man Utd legend Vidic urges Rangnick to make decision on Maguire form

Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic has told his former club to drop Harry Maguire from the team in a bid to change his form.

Maguire has been the victim of heavy criticism throughout the season, and has appeared to be struggling on the pitch. The England international once again failed to make a positive impact as his side suffered a disappointing defeat to relegation-threatened Everton at the weekend. Now, Vidic has called on the Red Devils to drop the centre back in order to fix his poor form.

Speaking to The Athletic, the Serbian admitted it’s clear that Maguire is not at his best this season.

Having said that, Vidic feels that omitting Maguire from the team will help him in the long run.

He said: “Every player has a problem with form at some time in his career.

“I did and it’s clear that Maguire is not at his best this season. I think you can do a few things and one of them is not to play every match as you try to find form again and get confidence.

“A coach could play him in easier games, not that there are many in the Premier League, and take him out for harder matches. The player needs to feel powerful and strong on the pitch again, not as it is now where he feels that it’s not happening for him.

“It’s difficult to play well when you’re under so much pressure because people are waiting for you to make a mistake.”

Manchester United needed a win to keep their hopes of Champions League football alive but suffered a costly defeat to relegation threatened Everton.

Vidic gives opinion on next Man Utd manager

Vidic was no stranger to success at Old Trafford, winning five league titles and a Champions League during an eight year spell.

However, in recent years his former club have struggled to replicate the success that once was prominent in the red side of Manchester.

With Ralf Rangnick leaving his role as head coach at the end of the season, Man United must announce his successor in the next few months.

And Vidic has given his opinion on what the new boss must bring if trophies are to return at Old Trafford.

“He needs the players to play as a team. It brings me back to the point of players needing to think about the team and not the individual. And he needs knowledge, with a clear idea of what he wants from the players on the pitch.

“He needs to be able to improve the players because there are players there who need improving and have a chance to improve if they have an open mind.

“There are some good players at United. If you look at Liverpool’s players, they wouldn’t suit the style that United have been playing and United’s players wouldn’t suit Liverpool’s or City’s style.

“The coach has to see what players he has, which ones he wants to bring in and get a clear strategy. It’s easy to say this, but the players must have an open mind towards the new coach.”
