Alonso started his career with Real Madrid, playing for their B team. He made just a single appearance for the first team in 2010, before signing for Bolton Wanderers.
The wing-back spent three years in England, before transferring to Fiorentina in the summer of 2013. From there, he spent some time on loan at Sunderland in 2014.
Alonso remained in Italy until the end of the 2015-16 season, when Chelsea came calling. He moved to London for the start of the next campaign.
In his first year with the London club, Alonso won the Premier League, and went on to win the FA Cup in the 2017-18 season.
