Anthony Gordon transfer news: Reported price tag revealed as Newcastle struggle to match Everton demands

Newcastle United will reportedly need to offer £40m to Everton in order to land winger Anthony Gordon.
Gordon enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, with six goal contributions from 35 Premier League matches. His efforts helped the Toffees narrowly avoid relegation to the Championship, as they finished 16th and just four points above the bottom three. Now, Gordon could be set for a move away from Goodison Park, with Newcastle reportedly keen.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, Newcastle must make an offer of around £40m for Everton to accept a deal.
It is believed Newcastle are prepared to make an offer of around £25m plus add-ons, however, this will not be enough.
It is unclear how much more Newcastle are willing to offer. However, they are determined to not overpay as the club understands they do not have unlimited funds to spend this summer.
Newcastle have already signed Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Matt Targett this summer. Those three deals have already set the club back £60m.
While the Magpies are expected to make more signings, particularly in the attacking department, they are hoping to stretch the budget across numerous signings.
As a result, this reported price tag attached to Gordon may be too much.
Everton hope to keep hold of Anthony Gordon
The £40m price tag has been set for a reason by Everton.
In what was a miserable campaign, Gordon was one of the few bright sparks at the club.
His pace and confidence on the ball makes him a tricky competitor for any opposition. And with Everton hopeful of a more promising campaign, keeping hold of players like Gordon is important.
The club have so far landed James Tarkowski on a free this summer. However, they are yet to make any improvements to the front line.
The club managed just 43 goals in the league last season, which must be improved for the next campaign.
However, even at this price it may be difficult to keep hold of the 21-year-old. While Lampard has already told the media that Gordon is going nowhere, other clubs such as Tottenham have also been linked with a move.
