Double Newcastle swoop on as PIF learn £104m fee needed to sign next-level duo

Newcastle target Goncalo Inacio of Sporting

Newcastle are seemingly making plans to shatter their transfer record this summer after learning the price needed to sign two top stars, with Goncalo Inacio one of those targeted.

The Magpies were the most active Premier League club during the January window, making five signings. They have all had a positive impact too on Eddie Howe’s side, who have lost just once since the turn of the year. Indeed, the Magpies have won four of their last five games and now sit 14th place.

Next on the horizon is a home date with Brighton. And a win over Graham Potter’s side would put further distance between themselves and the drop zone.

As such, the Magpies may soon be able to start preparing for the summer window. And with PIF at the helm, it promises to be a another huge transfer window at St James’ Park.

Top of their transfer priorities list is the recruitment of a top-level striker. And reports in Portugal now state Newcastle are very much among the suitors for Benfica hot-shot Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguay international was the subject of a failed £40m approach from West Ham in the January window. While Benfica held firm, widespread reports suggest they will likely cash in this summer.

That said, Newcastle are unlikely to be alone in the hunt for a man who has 23 goals in 29 matches this season.

Indeed, the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United are also being credited with an interest.

However, those two may yet be scared off by what seems like a prohibitive price being put on his head. As per Calciomercato journalist Rudy Galetti, any suitors will have to part with £67m if they want to prise Nunez from Estadio da Luz.

That fee, however, would not dissuade Howe if he feels Nunez is the man to take Newcastle’s attack to the next level.

Newcastle also chasing deal for Goncalo Inacio

The Magpies are also reportedly in the market to sign Portugal Under-21 defender Inacio.

He was first mentioned as a Newcastle target back in January, though no approach materialised.

However, Howe remains an admirer and Calciomercato suggests they are keeping a close watch on the centre-half.

Inacio has also caught the eye at the other end of the pitch too, scoring four times in 19 appearances.

Inacio reportedly has a release clause of £37million in his current contract, which runs until 2025.

And with top pick Sven Botman seemingly agreeing a move elsewhere, Inacio could prove a more obtainable target for the Magpies this summer.

Deals for the Portuguese-based pair would set Newcastle back a total of £104m – small change for the cash-rich PIF.
