Newcastle saw a €25m bid for Italy international Giacomo Raspadori rejected in January, though that could tee up a summer bidding war with Juventus, per a report.
The Magpies splashed out around £90m on five new faces in the winter window. Several areas of Eddie Howe’s squad were addressed and the January moves have helped to push Newcastle towards safety.
Indeed, Newcastle have won four and drawn one in their five league matches since the January window closed. That has launched the Magpies up to 14th with the threat of relegation already looking a distant memory.
However, the club’s ambitious owners are unlikely to stop there. An even bigger splurge in the summer is expected when safe in the knowledge their status as a Premier League club is secured.
Now, Goal (citing Italian journalist Nicolo Schira), reveal a bidding war with Juventus could be on the horizon for Giacomo Raspadori.
Schira tweeted Newcastle had bid €25m for the Sassuolo striker in January. The offer was rebuffed, though Goal reckon a move for the 22-year-old could be reignited in the summer.
Juventus eyeing Raspadori
If that scenario unfolds, competition is expected from Juventus. Indeed, Schira added the Turin club have added Raspadori to their list of targets ahead of next season.
Newcastle landed Chris Wood in January, though the New Zealander has struggled since leaving Burnley. Wood remains goal-less after six Newcastle appearances.
The fact the club drew strong links with further forwards including Hugo Ekitike would suggest more additions will be made in the forward line next summer.
Newcastle to give Boubacar Kamara massive wages this summer
Boubacar Kamara is set to leave Marseille this summer after failing to agree new contract with Newcastle set to give 22 year old massive payday
Raspadori has operated in a variety of positions at Sassuolo this season. He can count centre-forward, No 10, left wing and attacking midfield on his positional CV.
He has seven Italy caps to his name since making his debut in 2021 and has bagged nine goals and five assists in Serie A this season. His current contract expires in 2024.
Newcastle, Tottenham chasing Roma ace
Meanwhile, Newcastle and Tottenham are battling to sign Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo this summer, according to a report.
Zaniolo, 22, apparently ‘wants a change of scenery’, according to a report in Spain. The two Premier League clubs have been credited with a keen interest in the Italy international, who is under contract until 2024.
According to Sport Witness, competition from Juventus is expected to materialise. In fact, the outlet (citing Spanish reports) claim Zaniolo is Juve’s top target for the summer.
Zaniolo, who can play as a winger or a striker or supporting striker, is very highly regarded in Italy. A price tag of £33.5m has been mooted, but the latest report claims the figure would be more like £50m.
Newcastle’s new-found wealth reportedly makes them a strong contender to land the Italian in the summer.
Spurs, meanwhile, were interested during Jose Mourinho’s time at the helm and the article concludes they are in the mix once more.
