Newcastle United are reportedly pondering over making a double bid to land Inter Milan duo Hakan Calhanoglu and Denzel Dumfries this summer.
Having been taken over by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund in late 2021, the St James’ Park outfit splashed the cash in January to help their survival bid but are expected to go bigger this summer to bolster Eddie Howe’s squad.
They have already been linked with Lille centre-half Sven Botman as well as Stade Reims forward Hugo Ekitike.
However, Italian outlet Calciomercato claims the Magpies are also interested in Inter’s Calhanoglu and Dumfries.
Indeed, the report states that Newcastle are willing to spend a combined £51m for the pair.
Dumfries is currently being strongly tipped to join Manchester United, who are reportedly looking to offload fellow right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Inter are said to be confident that if they can offload midfielder Calhanoglu and Dumfries then they will be able to keep top assets Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni, Nicolo Barella and Lautaro Martinez.
Dumfries a major Man Utd target
Dumfries earned a move to Inter from PSV after shining at Euro 2020. And his first season in Serie A was impressive, with the 26-year-old scoring five times and adding seven assists.
That form led to talk of a potential Tottenham bid for the player. However, Newcastle have now joined the Red Devils in the race for Dumfries’ signature.
As for Calhanoglu, the Turkish star notched eight times for an Inter side who finished runners-up in Italy.
Newcastle will now have to hope the pair are willing to play for a club without any European football.
