Eddie Howe given licence as big Newcastle United spend is mooted with ‘huge’ funds set aside

Eddie Howe, Newcastle United, October 2022

Newcastle United’s owners will reportedly offer Eddie Howe “huge” funds to bring in a limited number of top stars if required.

Howe has been given major backing by the Saudi Public Investment Fund since they took over the club. The first sign of that was hiring the former Bournemouth manager to take the club forwards.

That immediately showed the faith the club has in him, and it has paid off thus far.

Howe has taken the club to new heights, or at least heights that they have not seen for a while. Indeed, when he took charge, the club were involved in a relegation scrap.

By the end of the season, they were just two points shy of the top half of the table. The Magpies’ 11th-placed finish was evidence that the turnaround was on track.

This season, that evidence has been all the more clear. At present, Newcastle are fourth in the Premier League, above Manchester United and Chelsea.

Clearly, Howe has been able to usher the Magpies back towards the top end of the league. That has been both with his tactical nous, and the backing he has gotten.

The manager has shelled around £200million on fresh faces since he has been at the club. A lot of those signings have added genuine quality to the side.

Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier, in particular, have been invaluable since joining.

Howe backed for big spend

That backing could be set to carry on, as the Magpies’ push continues. A report from Football Insider states that Howe will be offered more money to improve his squad.

It states there will be no repeat of last January’s haul of many players (five) joining.

However, PIF have green-lit the recruitment of ‘one or two’ stars who can ‘instantly improve’ the team. The goal is European qualification, and it is thought some new talent will help that push.

A source reportedly told Football Insider that “huge” money will be available if needed.

Newcastle push can continue

Clearly, Newcastle are in a great vein of form at the moment. They have not looked fazed with battling up top with the big boys.

That has been evident in their draws against both Manchester clubs, and a win against Tottenham. The squad is one of the best Newcastle have had in years.

They could well continue their great run without adding to the side.

However, adding even more quality should allow their push to continue. The club have been linked with multiple stars that would add something to the side.

Should they do that, the possibility of finishing in a European spot does not seem unlikely.
