Newcastle United are chasing a £34million deal for a Benfica forward with a £103m release clause, while Friday’s Euro Paper Talk claims that Atletico Madrid are ready to swoop for a Tottenham defender.
BENFICA FORWARD ON NEWCASTLE RADAR
Newcastle United could reportedly land promising Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos from Benfica for £34million this summer, despite his release clause being £103m.
Reports from Portugal claim that Benfica are ready to do business at that figure, having recently rejected a £25.7m offer for the player.
Record states there is also interest from recently promoted Nottingham Forest, plus clubs from France and Germany.
While that figure could be a little high for Forest, Benfica are hoping the price goes up if a bidding war ensues.
Super agent Jorge Mendes is leading the negotiations and will no doubt aim for the best deal possible.
The report adds that while Ramos has a release clause of €120 million (£103m) in his contract, Newcastle could actually get him for nearly £70m less.
German clubs can offer Ramos CL football
Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have also shown an interest. And they hold a trump card over Newcastle – Champions League football.
Ramos made 17 starts and 12 substitute appearances in the league for Benfica last season. He scored seven goals and adding a single assist in that time.
The attacker also made four starts and three substitute appearances in the Champions League last term, netting once.
