Ex-Arsenal favourite on Newcastle radar sets decision date; hints at future

Former Arsenal pair Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil in 2016

A former Arsenal favourite who has drawn links with Newcastle has hinted at his future plans after a trusted source revealed when a decision will be made.

Following the Saudi-led takeover completed last Thursday, Newcastle United’s transfer spending is expected to go into overdrive. A series of targets across all departments of their squad have already been linked. One of the most recent names reportedly in the frame was former Arsenal midfielder, Aaron Ramsey.

The 30-year-old remains one of Wales’ most influential stars, though his impact is rather more minimal at Juventus.

Juventus are understood to be willing to offload Ramsey who is one of their top earners. Indeed, ESPN (citing Calciomercato) again reiterated yesterday the Turin club are keen to sever ties with the former Gunner.

West Ham and Everton were thought to be in the mix prior to Newcastle’s takeover. The obvious stumbling block from their points of view is Ramsey’s high salary.

That isn’t something that will deter the Magpies, but per trusted transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, any Newcastle interest is yet to be acted upon.

Romano tweeted there were ‘no approaches for Aaron Ramsey or Mauro Icardi as things stand now’. Icardi was one of two PSG stars linked with Newcastle on Sunday.

Nonetheless, Romano did deliver a crumb of hope for Newcastle fans. He concluded Ramsey will ‘decide his future in December/January’.

Gareth Bale is the latest player to be linked with a move to St. James' Park, with more updates on Philippe Coutinho and Anthony Martial.

Whether Ramsey will return to England in the winter window, only time will tell. But if the player’s own comments are anything to go by, he still has unfinished business in Italy.

Via ESPN, Ramsey said in The Times: “Hopefully I can still show exactly what I can do there [at Juventus]. Things have been frustrating and haven’t quite gone to plan but I have never doubted my ability.

“I had a load of messages congratulating me. They are aware of me playing, but I just go out there and try to do the best I can.”

Five glamour appointments Newcastle United could make as manager

Newcastle urged to cherry-pick three Prem stars

Meanwhile, Rio Ferdinand believes Newcastle’s new owners should break the bank to sign a trio of top Premier League stars.

The BT Sport pundit told his YouTube show Vibe with Five that Newcastle should move for Manchester United star Jesse Lingard, West Ham’s Declan Rice and Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling.

Ferdinand said: “I’d be going to try and make like a mad couple of signings, like huge, that I think would be gettable.

“I’d be looking at people like Raheem Sterling. Raheem Sterling’s not playing regularly, I’d go ask him the question. I’d go and ask Declan Rice, “What’s going on?”

“Them two would be the first two on my list, and I’d go all out to go and get them. And then I’d be trying to get people like Jesse Lingard, who’s in and around the Man United squad. It’s unrealistic until you ask the question. I’d be going out there to get answers from these types of players and then you work your way down your list.

“[Kylian Mbappe] is just dreamland, but there’s people that would be on the periphery of the Man United squad, the Chelsea squad, the City squad. I’d be looking at players like that, I’d be all over those types of players.
