Newcastle include four Arsenal stars on lengthy list of Eddie Howe transfer options – report

Eddie Howe Newcastle

Newcastle have listed four Arsenal players as transfer options in their widespread search for January signings, a report has claimed.

The Magpies have cast their net far and wide, with the winter window notoriously tricky to get business done. It has been a lengthy process but one that they hope will prevent them from being relegated from the Premier League.

The Telegraph carry a report which details all of the first, second and third choice targets the club have for each position.

And among that extensive group of players is a quartet of Gunners stars.

Having fallen out with Mikel Arteta, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has already been linked with St James’ Park. Indeed, he has been considered.

However, his wages and Africa Cup of Nations absence mean he is an ‘unlikely’ signing for Eddie Howe.

Fellow striker Eddie Nketiah could be on the move north, though. His name features prominently on the list of replacements for the injured Callum Wilson.

More options are set to explored in that department, with Wilson’s calf issue throwing a spanner in the previously comprehensive plans.

With defence the priority, any midfield acquisition for Newcastle would likely be a loan deal. A potential for that is Mohamed Elneny.

Newcastle are targeting Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos this January to help them survive the drop

Elneny has been scouted ‘extensively’ and could be available having flirted with the Emirates exit door in recent windows.

The final Arsenal man the Toon are eyeing up is centre-back Rob Holding. Having nearly secured the signing of Kieran Trippier, that position is the next to be focused on.

Therefore, there is a substantial amount of names featuring as potentials. Sven Botman was the primary target, but after Lille blocked him leaving, Sevilla’s Diego Carlos has reportedly been considered.

Newcastle to test Utd resolve

Meanwhile, Newcastle are also said to be lining up a January move for Donny van de Beek.

Another report by the Telegraph claims they will test the Red Devils’ resolve for the midfielder. Van de Beek recently changed his agent in the hope of pushing through a January exit.

Doubts soon emerged as to whether he would be able to get his move away. But one source has insisted his new representatives are able to explore opportunities for him this month.

According to the report, Newcastle could be the ones to see how serious United are about keeping van de Beek.
