Newcastle learn price of powerful Arsenal target Gianluca Scamacca, who Fabrizio Romano insists will leave

Gianluca Scamacca Sassuolo

Newcastle and both Milan clubs are ‘on the trail’ of Arsenal target Gianluca Scamacca after a trusted source recently insisted he’ll move this summer.

The Sassuolo striker, 23, is one of the most physically imposing strikers Serie A has to offer. Standing at 6ft 5in tall, Scamacca has proved more than a match for most centre-halves.

Scamacca bagged 12 goals in 29 matches across all competitions while on loan with Genoa last year.

That saw him retained by Sassuolo for the current campaign where his league tally currently sits at 13.

The centre-forward made his debut for Italy in 2021 and has since accrued three caps. Clearly, Scamacca is a forward on the up in his homeland.

However, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, it may soon be time to spread his wings.

“Yes, yes, he will leave Sassuolo,” Romano recently said of Scamacca’s future to Rio Ferdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel.

“He extended the contract a few days ago but he will leave Sassuolo.

“It was an extension to allow a potential loan with obligation to buy clause”

Scamacca courted by Arsenal and Newcastle

An Italian report then put both Milan clubs in the frame for his signature this summer. A £34m fee could be enough to seal a deal, though Arsenal were reported to have knocked on Sassuolo’s door too.

The Italian side’s CEO then insisted his rangy striker has already received many offers from Premier League clubs.

Giovanni Carnevali insisted those wondering about Scamacca’s future should “keep an eye abroad”, though hinted a move is likelier to happen in 2023, not 2022.

“Inter have already informed us about their interest, but keep an eye abroad,” said Carnevali as relayed by Football Italia.

“Gianluca has received many offers from the Premier League. He still needs to improve and perhaps he needs to stay another year here.”

Arsenal are known to be on the hunt for attacking additions this summer. But according to Sport Witness, a move for Scamacca may first have to go through Newcastle.

Their report cited quotes from Italian journalist Ciro Verenato who revealed Newcastle are now in the mix. He also stressed AC and Inter Milan must be contended with too.

Furthermore, he backed up prior reports that £34m can make a deal happen.

“Scamacca is Napoli’s first big goal if Osimhen leaves,” said Verenato. “But he costs €40m (£34m) and Newcastle and the Milan clubs are on his trail.”

Newcastle and Arsenal will both have money to spend in the centre-forward department this summer.

Scamacca would represent something of a gamble given the relative lower quality of defences he faces in Serie A.

Indeed, Romelu Lukaku was a world beater at Inter but has flopped since returning to Chelsea.

But at 6ft 5in tall, Scamacca would be a striker very few centre-halves would relish facing. If Romano is correct and Scamacca does move this summer, the Emirates or St. James’ Park could yet become his new home.
