Newcastle transfer news: Magpies move forward with £7.6m deal for towering starlet Isaak Toure

Newcastle are reportedly readying a £7.6million deal for 6’7 Le Havre centre-back Isaak Toure due to their search for defensive reinforcements.

The Magpies are yet again being linked with another defender after only adding Dan Burn at centre-back in January. The club are consistently linked with a plethora of talent and Toure is seemingly next in line.

The defender has come through the Le Havre ranks and has broken into the first team this year. So far, he has amassed a total of 17 appearances.

Newcastle have previously been linked with top talent such as Sven Botman and James Tarkowski. If the Magpies were to sign Toure, however, he may have the potential to forge a promising career of his own.

The club have also recently extended the contract of fan-favourite Fabian Schar. Toure would likely compete with the Switzerland international for a starting position, if he joins.

This is according to a report by Foot Mercato, who claim that Eddie Howe’s team are readying a bid for the 19-year-old.

Newcastle are reportedly spearheading the charge against a multitude of European clubs.

The likes of Marseille, Frankfurt, Wolfsburg and Lyon are all also interested in acquiring the towering centre-back’s services.

The report also claims that Newcastle are ready to table a ‘concrete bid’ of €9million (around £7.6million). The defender will likely want his future decided before the Under-19 European Championships in mid-June.

Who is Isaak Toure?

As mentioned, Toure is a 6’7, 19-year-old centre-back, currently plying his trade in Ligue 2 for Le Havre. The France youth international has started in 33 percent of the games he’s played in.

Le Havre are commonly a mid-table side in Ligue 2 and have finished this season in eighth position. Toure has broken into the first team and gained some valuable minutes.

His exposure to first-team football has no doubt helped his development as a player. This is made evident by the amount of rumoured interest in acquiring the player’s services.

Despite being 6’7, Toure has a decent amount of pace. He would also fit Newcastle’s style of play as the defender has often been used as a left centre-back in a 4-3-3 formation.

The six-time capped France Under-19 international also possesses a good range of passing. He has often been known to ping a ball to either flank and he can also maraud forward if needed.

His size also means that he has exceptional aerial capabilities. It is unlikely that a ball would be lobbed over him when defending.

The 19-year-old’s style of play has been compared to that of Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate. This showcases the talent he possesses and the player who he could, one day, develop into.
