Newcastle step forward for signing of Luka Sucic, as asking price for midfield gem emerges

Luka Sucic playing for RB Salzburg

Newcastle United are in pursuit of Croatian midfielder Luka Sucic, according to a report that has revealed how much RB Salzburg may want for him.

Sucic came through the youth ranks with Salzburg, playing for their feeder team Liefering before becoming a top-flight player in 2020. So far, he has amassed 69 appearances for RB Salzburg, scoring 13 goals.

The majority of them came in the 2021-22 season, during which he found the net 11 times from 43 games. He also provided five assists.

The 19-year-old has subsequently been attracting other clubs. For example, in April, Sucic was linked with a transfer to Liverpool, who have already signed several players from Red Bull outfits Salzburg and Leipzig.

However, FootballTransfers are now naming Newcastle United as potential takers for Sucic.

Their report makes clear that Newcastle already know Sucic’s representatives. He is from the same base as defender Nico Schlotterbeck, whom the Magpies tried to take in January without success.

They will be hoping to have more success in their pursuit of Sucic, though. The report claims he could be available for a fee in the region of €20m, although there is flexibility.

Therefore, an investment around £17m should get the deal done for Newcastle, as long as they can convince the player too.

His position of midfield is an area they are looking to strengthen in the summer. They signed Bruno Guimaraes there in January and his impact has been a positive one.

Yet they want to find a young talent whom they can develop as they too grow as a club.

Sucic has potential, and even though his contract with Salzburg is due to run until 2025, Newcastle could lure him to the Premier League to make the most of his talent.

Luka Sucic pursuit an example of Newcastle building for present and future

During the January transfer window, Newcastle largely went for the tried and tested. Arrivals like Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood showed the kind of experience they felt they required.

It will also be important for them to build for the future, though. With that in mind, they took 24-year-old Guimaraes and are targeting teenage Reims striker Hugo Ekitike still.

Sucic could be the next younger player they focus on in the transfer market. If he develops well, he could become part of their future.

Newcastle seem to be getting the balance right in terms of the type of players they are pursuing. It will then be up to each arrival to prove their worth.
