Newcastle ready to pull trigger on Arsenal raid for top Howe target, with timeline following ‘formal bid’ reported

Newcastle United are reportedly expected to lodge a ‘formal bid’ for Kieran Tierney at the end of June, with the first half of July ‘pivotal’ for the snare.
After securing Champions League football for next season, improvement is expected at St James’ Park. While the squad is obviously in good shape, given the Magpies finished fourth, they’ll want to ensure competitiveness when they take the next step.
Some big names could walk through the door to add the the makeup of the side.
Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella is a reported target. Indeed, it’s been suggested Newcastle are in talks with the Champions League finalists over the midfielder, in a move which could cost £50million.
A player who has been on their radar for some time is Arsenal full-back Tierney.
The Scot has been a reported target of Newcastle’s for months. He’s seemingly a top target of Howe’s, and a sum of £30million could see him make the move to St James’ Park.
While that figure has been floated throughout the last few months, though, it’s been suggested the Gunners might ask for more.
How much more is unclear, however, a recent report stated Mikel Arteta’s side want a ‘bigger fee’.
Newcastle expected to lodge ‘formal bid’ soon
That does not seem to have put the Magpies off the transfer, though, as it’s suggested they’re ready to go full steam ahead.
Indeed, Football Insider reports they ‘remain in pole position’, with Arsenal ‘braced for bids’.
A ‘formal bid’ from Newcastle is expected at the end of the month, and it’s suggested the first half of July looks ‘pivotal’ in determining whether or not Tierney will make a move.
Getting the transfer done early will allow the left-back to be fully integrated in the squad before the season begins.
Tierney wants Newcastle move
The report suggests the Magpies are ‘still in a very strong position’ to land Tierney. With that being said, it seems the price tag is not one that worries them.
Tierney’s own thoughts on the move seem to put them in pole position, too.
Indeed, it’s reported he is ‘keen on a move’ to Newcastle as he wants to be closer to home.
That he’s ‘open to a new experience’ also suggests a move away is likely. If that’s not to be to Newcastle, though, there are other sides in the mix for the transfer.
Indeed, Football Insider references Aston Villa interest, alongside the fact that Manchester City are apparently ‘waiting in the wings’.
With that being said, Tierney is sure to be able to get himself a decent gig, but Newcastle will hope it’s them that complete the snare.
