Newcastle fan-favourite’s cryptic social media post casts doubt on future amid Tottenham links

Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin of Newcastle

Allan Saint-Maximin has posted a cryptic post on Instagram, leading to speculation among Newcastle fans that he could leave this summer.

The 26-year-old signed for the Magpies in 2019. Since, his eye-catching skill and vital contributions in relegation battles have made him a fan favourite.

But, it now seems his time at Newcastle could be over. Indeed, with the likes of Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon coming into Eddie Howe’s squad and others expected to follow soon, Saint-Maximin has gradually fallen down the pecking order.

Also, Howe’s team are expected to make more attacking additions ahead of next season. For instance, Lyon winger Rayan Cherki has been heavily linked with the Magpies recently.

This season, the winger made just 10 Premier League starts. This is significantly less than the previous campaign, when he made 31.

As a result, Newcastle are expected to listen to offers for Saint-Maximin this summer. Interestingly, Tottenham have previously registered an interest in the Frenchman.

With that in mind, Saint-Maximin could potentially join one of Newcastle’s top-four rivals. So, Howe could regret selling Saint-Maximin, if he does leave the club.

Saint-Maximin: ‘I’m at a turning point’

Now, amid the speculation, Saint-Maximin has posted a cryptic message on Instagram, which suggests he could leave this summer.

“When I joined Newcastle in 2019, nobody understood my choice. I always believed in this club and as soon as I stepped onto the pitch, the fans adopted me,” he wrote.

“Since then there have been highs and lows, like when we were in the relegation zone. But, I always believed in the team and trusted the project even if it was hard to stay in the PL.

“I want really want to thank all of my best supporters for supporting & believing in me, it’s because of you that I wake up every day more determined than ever…

“I always tried to be present on the pitch and give everything. I’m so proud of the team and that we achieved the Champions League.

“I am now entering a turning point in my career and I will give everything until the end to achieve my dreams….

“Thanks to everyone for the support, whatever happens, I will always give everything when I have the chance to step onto the pitch.”

It remains to be seen whether or not Tottenham will make a concrete offer for Saint-Maximin this summer. But, everything seems to be pointing towards him leaving Newcastle.

Toon fans will no doubt be sad to see him go. However, if he wants to play more regular football, as his post suggests, a departure from St James’ Park may be the best thing for him.
