Newcastle set sights on four Premier League stars as Howe prepares for busy summer window
Newcastle are already preparing for the summer transfer window and they are currently looking at several Premier League stars.
Eddie Howe has done a fine job since taking over at Newcastle and the club is expected to level up once again in the next transfer window.
Newcastle have spent their money wisely since the takeover and this summer isn’t expected to be any different.
A report from the Daily Mail has claimed that Newcastle are keeping their eye on Harvey Barnes ahead of a potentially move in the summer.
Leicester have had a difficult season so far and they could see several of their stars poached in the summer.
Newcastle have also held an interest in James Maddison, but it now seems they are switching their attention to Barnes.
Barnes has been a regular in the Leicester starting 11 since the 2019–20 season. Impressively, he has hit double figures for goals in each of his last three seasons in all competitions.
The report clarifies that Inter Milan are interested in Allan Saint-Maximin and Newcastle could look towards Barnes as his replacement.
Despite Saint-Maximin being linked with a move away, Howe has consistently told the media that he remains in his plans.
“Without a doubt, I wouldn’t be picking him in the team if he wasn’t part of the now and the future because I don’t believe in that,” Howe told Northern Echo.
“The rest is up to Allan. Allan has to perform week in, week out to maintain his standing in the group.
“That’s the same for any player. We really like him, we really respect him, he can make a difference for us.”
Newcastle have other targets
Along with Barnes, Newcastle are also interested in several other players. Newcastle are also interested in strengthening their midfield and defence.
The report also clarifies Newcastle’s interest in Scott McTominay, James Ward-Prowse and Kieran Tierney.
McTominay was on target for Manchester United in their latest game against Everton, but recent reports have claimed that he is pushing for a move away from the club.
It has been reported that McTominay doesn’t want to fall further behind in the pecking order at Man Utd and he is ready to leave if they sign a new midfielder in the summer.
The Scottish midfielder has featured in 21 Premier League matches this season, with 11 of his appearances coming from the bench.
He has been useful in the absence of Casemiro, but he has often been used as a backup this year.
Given that Southampton face the possibility of relegation this season, Ward-Prowse could be available on a cut-price deal.
Newcastle are one of the most attractive Premier League clubs right now. Given their rapid rise up the league, any player would surely be excited to join in the current project.
