Neymar pushed aside by Mbappe, PSG deal and could be in line for shock Premier League move

Neymar could be in line for a shock move to Newcastle United, following Kylian Mbappe’s new contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

Neymar has been one of the biggest stars in Europe for much of his time on the continent. The Brazilian made waves during his time at Barcelona, following a £79million move from Santos.

In four seasons at Barcelona, the tricky winger racked up 105 goals and 76 assists. He then made the world-record transfer to PSG, worth nearly £200million.

The star has continued to shine during his time in France. Neymar has netted 100 goals and provided 60 assists in 144 games as a PSG player.

He has played alongside Mbappe for his entire PSG career, as the striker was loaned to the French giants in the same season as Neymar’s transfer, before moving permanently the following summer.

The pair have formed a top partnership during their time together. Mbappe is the second-highest goalscorer in the club’s history, and Neymar is fifth on the list.

With that being said, Mbappe is clearly a crucial member of the PSG side. That is reinforced by his recent contract renewal, which will see him stay at the Parc Des Princes for another three years. Some reports also state he will make £1million per week.

That new deal could push Neymar to the side at PSG. L’Equipe reports that his situation has ‘deteriorated’ over the past year, and Mbappe has ‘replaced him’ in the ‘heart’ of the club.

As such, PSG may be willing to see Neymar move on. The report also rules out a number of big European sides from signing him: Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

However, it does mention Newcastle as a potential destination for the former Barcelona ace.

Newcastle, Neymar move improbable

It seems unlikely that the Magpies would attempt to sign Neymar from PSG. Amanda Staveley admitted a couple of months ago that Newcastle will not spend “silly money” despite their vast riches.

Indeed, Neymar – under contract until 2025 – is sure to warrant a hefty fee, and the Magpies are unlikely to want to pay that.

What’s more, the winger is apparently still keen on remaining a PSG player, despite the report stating his situation is deteriorating.

As such, a move to Newcastle, or any club for that matter, may not be on the cards for Neymar soon.
