Newcastle on verge of record-breaking striker deal as multiple sources confirm successful bid for La Liga star

Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak, according to reports in Spain and England.
Finding further firepower up front has been a priority for Newcastle during this transfer window. However, their only additions so far have been at the other end of the pitch. Now, though, it seems they are on the verge of finally ticking that item off their checklist.
Deals for a number of other attacking targets have fallen through. But Newcastle appear to have had more success with Alexander Isak.
According to El Diario Vasco, Real Sociedad have now accepted an ‘irrefutable’ offer from Newcastle. The bid was worth an initial €70million (£59million), potentially rising to €75million (£63.2million) with add-ons.
It will be a record signing for Newcastle, and a record sale for La Real – who will also have a 10% sell-on clause for the striker.
The news has since been verified by respected sources such as The Athletic‘s David Ornstein and Italian transfer reporter, Fabrizio Romano. The likes of Sky Sports News and the Telegraph are reporting it too – so there is clearly something to it.
According to The Athletic, the deal is worth in the region of £60million, which would seem to match up with El Diario Vasco‘s initial scoop.
Romano has written that Isak will be signing a long-term deal with Newcastle. Those terms are still under discussion and Ornstein has added that a medical is yet to be arranged.
Alexander Isak set for exciting new challenge with Newcastle
The Sweden international, should all go through, will be playing in the Premier League for the first time in his career. He has previously represented AIK, Borussia Dortmund, Willem II and Real Sociedad.
With the latter, he has scored 44 goals from 132 appearances. At the age of 22, he has a big future ahead of him and will be hoping to maximise his potential in the Premier League.
There will be high expectations on him, especially with the fee Newcastle are paying. It will be up to him to deliver.
By leaving La Real for Newcastle, he will be sacrificing his involvement in European competition. But the Magpies are building an ambitious project and he should be a key part of it.
After the arrivals of Nick Pope and Sven Botman, plus a permanent deal for Matt Targett, Isak should soon be able to become the latest recruit of the summer for Newcastle.
