‘Scary’ – Italian source names four superb transfer targets at top of Newcastle summer wishlist

Newcastle United are making plans to transform their squad this summer with reports in Italy naming four exciting signings the Magpies have in their sights.

Newcastle splashed out around £90m on five new faces in January. Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes and Dan Burn all arrived on permanent deals. Matt Targett, meanwhile, joined on loan.

Each new face has already made their debut for the club, and the feel-good factor has returned in the North-East. Indeed, six wins from their last seven games have lifted Newcastle United within touching distance of safety.

And their latest success, at Southampton, saw both Wood and Guimaraes score their first goals for the club.

And with the club upwardly mobile, Newcastle are already making plans to further strengthen their squad this summer.

As such, Calciomercato claims Newcastle are preparing plans to make their squad ‘one of the giants of world football’.

Indeed, they claim Newcastle are planning to be ‘scary once again’ on the transfer front. Furthermore, their new-found wealth will see them secure the signings of a number of top stars.

With that in mind, the Italian outlet claims they want four players brought in to further strengthen their spine.

Newcastle want two defenders

First up, the Magpies are looking to bolster their central defence with the report once again highlighting their interest in Sven Botman.

Eddie Howe’s side made multiple efforts to sign the Dutchman in January, only to see their advances rebuffed.

However, they are now seen as the leading candidates to sign the Lille star, beating AC Milan to his signature.

Alongside him, Newcastle are also looking to bring in Matthias Ginter.

The Borussia Monchengladbach defender is out of contract in the summer and wants to leave the Bundesliga club. The Germany star also admits that “after a long period of reflection” he now wants to move on.

“I have decided to follow another path in my career,” said the Germany international in December.

Capped 46 times for his country, the defender is also wanted by Bayern Munich. And while they remain favourites, Newcastle’s wealth could yet tip the scales in their favour.

Newcastle United marquee signing

Newcastle United are also looking to bolster their midfield and attack this summer.

Boubacar Kamara is set to leave Marseille this summer after failing to agree new contract with Newcastle set to give 22 year old massive payday

Top of their midfield wishlist is Boubacar Kamara, another free agent, this time with Marseille.

Kamara is a product of the Marseille academy and has been shining in Ligue 1 over the past few seasons. Despite being just 22 years old, he is already on 154 appearances for the French outfit.

The defensive midfielder has featured 32 times so far this season, scoring once. He has even captained OM on occasion, both domestically and in Europe.

However, the most eye-catching signing of all could come in attack with Darwin Nunez.

The Uruguay international was the subject of a failed £40m approach from West Ham in the January window. While Benfica held firm, widespread reports suggest they will likely cash in this summer.

That said, Newcastle are unlikely to be alone in the hunt for a man who has 23 goals in 30 matches this season.

He is valued at a huge £67m – a fee which would shatter Newcastle’s transfer record.

That fee, however, would not dissuade Howe if he feels Nunez is the man to take Newcastle’s attack to the next level.
