Serie A ace repeats Arsenal snub despite Newcastle ‘offer’ dwarfing rivals

Nikola Milenkovic Fiorentina

A report claims Newcastle United have ‘offered’ Fiorentina €100m to sign Dusan Vlahovic but the striker is eyeing a club with Champions League football.

The Magpies are now serious players in the transfer market after the Saudi-backed takeover. Mike Ashley’s frugal reign is over and fans can look forward to better times at St James’ Park. But it will not happen overnight and Eddie Howe’s first task is to stave off the threat of relegation.

The Tynesiders currently sit 19th of the 20 top-flight clubs with only 10 points to their name. They did manage to secure a first league win when beating Burnley 1-0.

However there is much work to do and January will be a crucial month in their bid for survival. Howe will bring in several players – possibly on loan – he feels are tailor-made for the club’s predicament.

And, should they finish above 18th in the league, the former Bournemouth chief will then look to add class to his ranks. Vlahovic, 21, falls into that category, with a number of big-name clubs said to be keen on the Serbia hitman.

Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham are all thought to be interested. Having scored 21 Serie A goals last term, the youngster has been at it again in 2021-2022.

The Belgrade-born ace has found the net on 15 occasions from 17 outings in the Italian top flight. And RAI Sport are reporting that Newcastle have ‘approached’ Fiorentina with an offer of up to €100m.

But even the sums mentioned and the possibility of the player receiving an astronomical wage may not be enough.

Vlahovic demands to be among Europe’s elite

Arsenal have reportedly already been rejected by the prolific forward. That is because they are deemed to have little chance of winning trophies or playing in the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta might disagree, with his side currently fourth in the Premier League table. But it seems as though Newcastle will also be given short shrift as they are struggling at the wrong end of proceedings.

A move next summer seems likely for the former Partizan ace. He is under contract with I Viola until the summer of 2023 and has shown no signs of extending his stay in Florence.

The man with seven Serbia goals is eager to join Juventus. But the Old Lady do not have the funds to do a deal.

A switch to the Premier League is more likely. However, there may be more suitors for Vlahovic when the dust settles on the current campaign.
